I'll admit I tried this game not long after it came out, but struggled with it.
Since reading about the latest update (Cagney) I decided to give it another go. This time it clicked!!
Once I got my head around not needing to re-try each race after failing it (which seems to happen a lot) I started having a great time.

Anyone else had a similar situation?
I'm now torn as to if the next Burnout would be better with this format or going back to the previous (fixed race) format, which I also really enjoyed.

although im assuming burnout paradise, anyway, i starting replaying it after the last update.. and it seemed pretty bad to me. I dunno, since GT5P and GRID.. it just seems like Ridge racer to me now.. arcadey and a bit crap!

It's a devisive change, but one I've come round on. Just requires a different approach as to how you attack it. It's more like NFS: Most Wanted, which is no bad thing.

I'm really pleased by the updates Criterion are making, plus they're free. Bring on the bikes!

The next update, the one including the bikes, won't be free

I thought the update would be free but there'd be vehicles you can purchase within it?

I still can't work out how planes are going to be included!!

I played the game straight through, never put it down but I was of the similar thought to begin with. Then I found that even if I did fail event, there was another one I could do nearby. I then worried that near completion it would get frustrating as you would have to drive all the way back then, but by that time, I was driving round Paradise City relatively easily and so I didn't mind. Just driving around Paradise City is a fun thing to do, and now with custom soundtracks (for those of us on the PS3 who never had the luxury before Cagney) it's even better. This game has taken up so much of my time now. I really do enjoy it.

I'm a huge fan of Burnout Paradise and I think the franchise needed a new direction.  At the end of the day, they would have got plenty of flak for doing "the same old thing" in HD, so fair play for trying something different.

    I agree completely.

Criterion has also been messing around with [propeller] planes. This stuff is no further than the alpha phase, if they are even continuing with it.

I'd almost think that they'd be pointless without creating a whole new game.

The only problem I have with the new format is not being able to swap cars without having to drive across town to find a garage. Most of the time it's not too bad but it can be annoying when I run up on an event like a stunt run or something and I'm in a speed car wishing I had a stunt car. Other than that I like the fact that I don't get so hung up on retrying the same race over and over.
