CRYENGINE is treated as a new engine from Crytek, not entirely based on the previous CryEngine 3.

    Short summary describing this concept.

No recent wiki edits to this page.

CRYENGINE is the latest engine from Crytek. It removes the numbering of Crytek's previous engines to reflect the ongoing updates of a service oriented product. This fourth generation of CRYENGINE is dissimilar to the previous three. During GDC 2014 Crytek announced that the CRYENGINE will be available as a subscription-based Engine-as-a-Service for indie developers, allowing anyone to use the engine by paying a monthly subscription fee.

At GDC 2016 it was announced that the engine would move to a "Pay What You Want" model, with monthly memberships and enterprise tiers offering extras services, such as support.

With these changes came the introduction of a game asset marketplace.
