Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

Game » consists of 23 releases. Released Nov 05, 2007

The fourth main Call of Duty game ditches the World War II setting of the past games to tell a story set in contemporary times, and backs it up with a breakthrough multiplayer mode.

    Now that MW2 is out...

is anybody going to be playing CoD4 for 360?

I'm interested in buying it because my budget for games is pretty tight for a while...but is anybody going to be playing multiplayer now that MW2 is out?  Is there really anybody who has CoD4 and XBLG who isn't buying MW2 before the week is over?

I'm sure there will be. You'd be surprised how many people can't afford a new game right when it comes out, especially so close to the Christmas season.

Agreed.  I definitely would not worry about their being a lack of people to play with in Call of Duty 4.  But the thing I was wondering about is the actual price of CoD 4.  Maybe it's because I live in Canada, but at Best Buy they're still selling it for 60 bucks and I'm pretty sure the cheapest I've seen it used at an EB/GameStop was probably like 50, maybe 45 dollars.  I dunno...shop around?

I assume it'll be like Gears of War was back when the sequel came out where a massive chunk of the players moved on but there was still plenty around. Or, if you want to be contemporarily behind the times, you could get the Wii version and play online there.

Gears was the first thing that popped into my head as well. I just put it in the other day to get a few kills closer to the ridiculous achievements and had no trouble finding games. Even now almost a year after the sequel came out. Sure it is not as booming as it was but you can still find matches easy.

Given that CoD4 is even more popular than GoW there should be absolutely no problem finding matches for it on the 360 version.

I bet lots of folks who plan on getting MW2 for Christmas will be playing online until then, and even after that there will continue to be a hardcore group of players. But you shold realize that userbase will be both smaller and much harder to play against than the majority that played up until now.

People still play Halo 2 on the 360.  I don't know why you'd think they've be more quick to move on.

I considered this as well, but it seems like everybody is buying MW2.

Doesn't really matter for me personally anyways...I fooled myself into thinking I had time to get into a new multiplayer FPS.

Maybe MW2 will be my Summer 2010 game.

Most of the people that play halo 2 bought Halo 3. They just preferred the old game, and that will happen to a sizable number of people for MW.

My guess there is going to be a hardcore niche of players who devoted so much time to COD4 they will scoff at anything MW2 brings to the table and continue playing COD4. Kind of like the Counter Strike iterations, some of the user base migrated to Source but a lot of them still play classic.

but CS:Source wasn't just a sequel to CS:1.6.  it was practically an entirely different game.

as far as i know, MW2 is just building upon the CoD4 engine.

    If you go online on COD4 you'll take a look around and say;

I've seen some of my friends play COD4 this week, but they already own MW2 so I have no idea why. Maybe trade in some games or something and get yourself MW2, it's got a far better multi-player.
