You read that right. Revolver just posted up that Avenged Sevenfold is making a digitized appearance in Black Ops 2 to perform their new song "Carry On". The video will play after the credits of the campaign (from what I'm to understand). It features a couple of the characters from Black Ops 2 in a small "comedy" skit beforehand, then busts into a performance.

Personally, I think this is dumb...dumb...dumb. I'm no fan of A7X (not since Waking The Fallen at least), and this is just...dumb. It was cool for me when Blind Guardian showed up with a digitized performance of "Sacred Worlds" in Sacred 2...but this... What makes it bad is that ACTIVISION MADE GUITAR HERO! You would THINK that someone would've been able to do a much better performance capture, especially if you've ever seen the excellent performance capture that they did in Guitar Hero: Metallica. *sigh*

Anyways, here's the video...if that's your thing. What do you guys think? Should bands stop being in games like this? Is it something you like or not?

*EDIT* I would like to point out that I am hyped as fuck for Black Ops 2. I am not a Call of Duty hater. I just think stuff like this is...dumb.

I think this is an appropriately stupid stunt for an game that will (most likely) be quite stupid. It seems to me like Treyarch better understands how chest-thumpingly dumb the CoD series has gotten and is embracing the hell out of it.

EDIT: And come on. Avenged Sevenfold isn't that bad. Be glad they aren't filling up CoD with dubstep.

To answer your question, no, I'm not really a fan of stuff like this, but I don't think it's a particularly big deal.

Why do game makers seem to think that the only people who play games are emotionally crippled 15-year olds? The court the worst bands to do this kind of thing. Even worse, they get them when they are years passed relevancy. I really hope they get an awesome Godsmack song for the new Hitman game. Or some Disturbed for Far Cry 3

Who the hell would sign off on this? Why not just let the game end after the credits? I think that would be preferable to throwing in some abandoned Guitar Hero assets for no good reason.

Saw it a few days ago, I found it incredibly hilarious. Several characters from the story mode are alive and well, dancing in the audience. Rocking out to Avenged Sevenfold. Much like Edward Elric said a few posts ago, Treyarch is embracing the complete stupid that has always emanated from Call of Duty and made something hilariously dumb. I approve.

i thought it was funny. its good when a game doesnt take itself overly serious. Now im no big fan of Avenged Sevenfold, but seeing that made me have high hopes for this game

Angst is fun for kids, but when the average age of a gamer is 30, this is a poor choice indeed. It's also far beyond drop in quality to go from the Rolling Stones in Black Ops 1 to these guys in the sequel. 
 
Also, if you want to go with angst, and you already have Trent Reznor writing the theme song for your game, how hard would it have been to ask him to license a vocal track?

I kind of like A7X, but that's not a good song. And mocapped people with terrible, stiff animations just look awkward as hell. This just seems really weird. Not sure what to make of it, but I also kind of don't care. Crass cross-promotion in Black Ops 2? Ok. But it seems like they're trying to have their cake and eat it too. Not much camp in what I've seen of that game, generally.

And let the record show I also like Skrillex, so I have the best/worst music taste. You decide!
