    Call of Duty: Black Ops

Game » consists of 19 releases. Released Nov 09, 2010

Starting this Friday at 10 a.m. PST (or 10 p.m. JST) Black Ops will be having an all Nuketown weekend with double XP. For me, this is really nice because I have just gotten into CoD: Black Ops (I'm more of a Battlefield: BC 2 guy). Since I almost have my first prestige, I am hoping that I can complete another prestige during the double XP weekend. I also love the Nuketown map.

I love the feel of Nuketown. It feels a lot like walking through the neighborhood in Edward Scissorhands. The whole map is reminiscent of 50's/60's Americana. The pastel colors of the map. The clothes on the dummys. Even, the housing development sign outside of the houses looks like it fell from a scene from Mar's Attacks.

Another guy mentioned earlier that he hated Nuketown because of spawn camps, constant explosions, and some other gripes I forgot. But, those are the reasons I love that map. It is like playing old school Quake. I love throwing random grenades and hitting stuff. I like pasting the map with Nova Gas. And, depending on the balancing of the teams, the tug and pull of the B flag in domination is deadly fun.

Here is hoping that I can spend a ton of time playing Nuketown this weekend.

I don't think it's a 'mistake' as such. It's just a easy term for them to use and for others to understand.

I am sure there are a million issues that are more important than anything on Giantbomb. Writing my congressional representative, doing volunteer work, getting off my fat ass and exercising, etc. I would guess that both of us have our reasons for being here.

I was logging on to play some CoD before I wrote the article. So, the more important thing for me was writing instead of playing a game. Writers should write.

24/7 is more of a term used to describe something that doesn't stop. And 24/7 weekend maps don't stop until the end of the weekend.

I think that throughout CoD: Black Ops Treyarch does a pretty good job of making everything pretty clean and professional looking. Maybe 3 years is a long time to be away from the states, but I don't really hear people going around saying, "I'm gonna drink 24/7 this weekend!" Or, if somebody asks you, "What did you do last weekend?" A person who uses this phrase would say, "I played games 24/7 last weekend."

I could understand if a person uses the phrase in a hyperbolic sense. If I asked a guy if he smoked, he might answer by saying, "24/7 man!" We understand that he doesn't smoke every second out of every day.

I'm just trying to point out that Activision is a business. We should hold businesses accountable for what they do and what they say. As I said before, it seems like CoD is a well put together package. I would assume that Treyarch and Activision would want to keep it a clean, professional product.

@sopachuco13: You're taking this too seriously and you're being way too literal. Language is not a rigid, monolithic structure that only has one and just one meaning. "24/7" doesn't just mean "the whole 24 hours of the day, 7 days a week", but also "all the time"or "constantly".

i know what you mean. i got excited when i first saw when they did it. it didn't happen. i love nuketown. i would enjoy just to play nuketown all the time. i say that more consoles have things like that, like what pc games do. they have servers just for a specific map and it would be great for them to do that. when i play counter strike source, i only play on office and de_dust.

@sopachuco13: I'd just like to say.. Treyarch doesn't know basic math. Ever tried sorting out a proper number of bots on a multiplayer map for split screen with your friends? LOGIC DOES NOT WORK.

I do have to say though, 24/7 should never be used to describe something that is not, in fact, 24/7. Its false advertising. If it's a weekend event, then it should be 24/2. If you're using it as a marketing ploy to say "all the time!" because it'll be easier to understand, as opposed to be it really being 24/7, its time to stop aiming your product at retards.

I thought that for a long time, but once I got every pin in Battlefield: BC 2 and all of the trophies I needed something else to unlock. My friend duped me into buying Black Ops but we never played it together, so I never played it. I started playing on those terms and have sunk a crazy amount of time into the game in a short amount of time.

guess you haven't seen all the servers called Nuketown 24/7 on the PC server browser, i think Treyarch is paying homage to such a phenomenon.

You would have to ask yourself which version of the definition for "constant" the OED is using.

    According to Mirriam Webster:

    Definition of CONSTANT

    1
: marked by firm steadfast resolution or faithfulness :exhibiting constancy of mind or attachment <a constant friend>
    2
    :invariable, uniform<a constant flow>
    3
: continually occurring or recurring :regular<a constant annoyance>
    con·stant·lyadverb

According to numerical ranking (dictionaries are usually ranked according to popular usage) the top two uses of 'constant' agree with Veg and I.

@sopachuco13: If you're arguing about the use of a word in a dictionary, use the same dictionary you're contesting, not a third party. If I quote the OED, don't try to rebuke me with the MW. Also, the way words are organized within a dictionary is up to the editor. While they usually are listed by usage and "popularity", in this case the relevance of the ordering is null, because "constant" can refer to morality (definition 1), quality (definition 2) or time (definition 3). The first two definitions have nothing to do with your original point. It's definition 3, which points at the frequency of appearance of a certain event, which fits the use of "24/7".

    The OED quotes:

    6. a.A.6.a Of actions, conditions, processes, etc.: Continuing without intermission or cessation, or only with such intermissions as do not interrupt continuity; continual, incessant, perpetual, persistent.
b.A.6.b Of a thing: Always kept up; permanent.

That has nothing to do with resolution, faithfulness or quality.

And, again, if the authority dictionaries accept it and people are able to understand "24/7" as "constant" or "all the time", there's nothing wrong with using it. You are purposefully "forgetting" about one meaning to suit you claim.

@JoeyRavn: I think it boils down to this: if someone runs up you and says "Z0MFSM! They're running a 24/7 Nuketown Server!" you immediate reaction is "twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week? What a terrible idea!" not "Oh! A constant nuketown server! That's brilliant!" I think that goes for EVERYONE.

Did OP change his entire post? Or am I losing it? Which is also plausible.

There is no thread. This whole debate is happening in your head.

At first I thought it was an elaborate troll by the first five repliers to literally just post the same things they had in the other thread, which would've been really funny.

Then I realized OP changed his thread title and first post, which makes everyone else in the thread look crazy. Why'd you do that, OP?

@JoeyRavn: No..no I'm sorry but using a word incorrectly does not count as creative/liberal writing, it's just incorrect.

    From the OED:

24-7, adv. colloq. (orig. and chiefly U.S.).
    Brit. /ˌtwɛntɪfɔː ˈsɛvn/, U.S. /ˌtwɛn(t)iˌfɔr ˈsɛvən/
    Forms: 19– 24-7, 19– twenty-four seven
    [‹ twenty n. + four n. + seven n. Usually written with numerical symbol.]
Twenty four hours a day, seven days a week; constantly.

I'll be waiting here for your proof of why using "24/7" as "constantly" is incorrect.

    Yes..constantly.
    Continually occuring/reoccuring.
That would imply that the double xp 'period' is without variation or change. However, the period will change, in that it ENDS, after the weekend. It is not constant.
