Just read an article in CVG that Treyarch was toning down the violence because the neck-twisting was too realistic.:

Wow, whatever happened to the "Violence on/off" setting? I thought the game's rated M already? I've played through MoH, WaW, and Brothers in Arms: Hells Highway and I swear I saw limbs flying off and people getting blasted to chunks. There's also a scene in MW2 where Soap chokes a guy to death. Aren't those worse than neck-twisting?
Then again, I guess they may not want to be "featured" on Faux News.
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Game » consists of 19 releases. Released Nov 09, 2010
The seventh installment of the long-running action franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops puts players into the early era of the Cold War (including the Vietnam War) as a member of the United States black operations unit known as the SOG.
Black Ops violence being toned down
Man all these shooters now a days are fucking lame, I wanna see guts and blood and brains and bowels.
There being pussies and trying to attract as much of the younger population as they can as the parents will pick it up if they know it's not to bad.
So they decided not to go with a "do you want to skip this?" option when you start the campaign? Oh well. Seems kinda crazy since you are already cutting people and shooting them, but guess they don't want some media backlash or something
" Man all these shooters now a days are fucking lame, I wanna see guts and blood and brains and bowels. There being pussies and trying to attract as much of the younger population as they can as the parents will pick it up if they know it's not to bad. "Do you REALLY want to see bowels?
OH MY GOD I WON'T BE ABLE TO TWIST A GUY'S NECK AND WATCH HIM STRUGGLE FUTILY TO ESCAPE MY MURDEROUS GRASP. GAME RUINED!!!
Seriously, who the fuck cares? I just hope they do a good job balancing the only competitive MP, give us a compelling, coherent story, and make the game fun to play.

Fucking lame! I was just playing Spec Ops on MW2 today and was thinking "You know what this needs? More violence/blood". I was hoping for WaW levels of gore, but less cartoony, and a nice red mist when you shoot dudes anywhere. They could have just cut that script out through a warning thing at the beginning of the game like MW2 did. Oh well, still very much looking forward to this.
" The leaked mp videos seem to show that there's no more blood in the game, either. "Maybe it's just in the vids, war shooters without blood feels "off" to me as it feels like shooting dolls. I guess Treyarch just wants to keep things sensible instead of reaching for that "authentic" neck-snapping before the Daily Mail gets bored and writes up another article about them.
Still, hoping that MP isn't as busted as MW2. I can only replay the SP for so many times.
The irony is that by removing blood and gore, they are glorifying violence and war even more. When a game is gore you have to think -even if just for a split second- "Huh, there are repercussions to my violent actions." If a game is goreless, it reinforces the idea that violence is fun and without consequence.
...but really, who give a shit if you can't snap necks?
this is a shame as in the uk the waw was rated a 15 and was full of gore which i loved (sorry if that make me sound werid) when black ops seem to be going the 18 route by bbfc. so all i can take from this is two senarios 1)being that the violence is waw style but only in the sp or 2) the games got a controversial moment like "no russian" in mw2. thoughts?
" @BeachThunder said:Call of Crochet: Scarf Ops" I think they should just make everything in the game out of yarn :3 "oh my god........ YES. "
To be followed up by Call of Needlepoint: Candy Apple Baby Blanket
The days of good 'ol gore needs to come back, remember when you could shoot a guys arm off and have him run of screaming until he bleeds out? Hellz yeah...
Then again, I guess they may not want to be "featured" on Faux News. "Faux is pronounced foh. Not fox.
" Just read an article in CVG that Treyarch was toning down the violence because the neck-twisting was too realistic.:Saw leaked footage, there are limbs flying off in this game. At least scripted ones.

" @Potter9156: dude, spoiler, flagged. "Calm down. It was just a joke; I don't even know which character Gary Oldman voices. Read the article.
" This doesn't bother me and, depending how violent the game originally was, I appreciate it. I'm going to play Black Ops because I want to play a damn game. Blood and gore are a distraction from the game and I don't derive any pleasure from seeing them. "Have you considered playing something which doesn'trevolve around dudes massacring each other?
" @withateethuh said:I apologize. I got freaked out because Gary Oldman voices Reznov and knowing this would have made me very upset." @Potter9156: dude, spoiler, flagged. "Calm down. It was just a joke; I don't even know which character Gary Oldman voices. Read the article. "
I'm a firm believer that the death animation for everything should be a broken neck.
Shoot a dude in the face 45 times? Broken neck.
Developers need to stop being pussies. I fail to see how neck snapping can be considered too violent for a war game, one in which you can murder hundreds of people online using a variety of weapons.
Seriously, if im playing a war game that has GUNS and EXPLOSIONS and DEATH then i expect there to be some pretty grafic shit. I mean its the least they can do is to portait that war is a fucking brutal and messy thing. Not having the gore just seems to glamorise it some how, which really seems dumb.
I've finished the game twice now. Once on veteran and once on normal and even if the violence has been toned down it is still the most violent call of duty game.
