Proud to say I haven't given Activision a dime since Modern Warfare and I will keep it that way unless this game is somehow amazing. My sense is that although Kotick clearly has surgically implanted bombs in the skulls of Treyarch employees designed to detonate if the Metacritic score is <90, I haven't heard or seen anything that gives me hope that this will be anything other than another Modern Warfare clone from Treyarch. And best indications are that it was completely rushed. I'd love to be convinced otherwise, why are some of you hopeful? I grant that some of the new game modes sound cool, but I think a compelling storyline and excellent fundamental multiplayer are musts.
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Game » consists of 19 releases. Released Nov 09, 2010
The seventh installment of the long-running action franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops puts players into the early era of the Cold War (including the Vietnam War) as a member of the United States black operations unit known as the SOG.
Evidence that this game will be significantly better than MW2?
I don't know if you know this but they included Ballistic Knives in the game. I know that's pretty vague so I'll go ahead and explain it better, ITS A KNIFE THAT SHOOTS KNIVES and you kill their owners with it.
It's also a fantastic game if you enjoy stabbing people in the face and neck. You can even run up to people Shank style like Uh, Uh, Uh, Uh, Uh! It's oddly satisfying.
How can Black Ops NOT be better? It's MW2 we're talking about here. But Black Ops does look promising so far. The only thing I'm a little concerned about are the RC Cars and the Ballistic Knife. Like, for the car, all you have to do is get 3 kills and then anybody of your choosing dies. Hopefully you can shoot the car to detonate it before it gets into range. I still predict a lot of spam at the games release. And the Ballistic Knife doesn't sit well with me either. Especially since it's a secondary weapon so I'm assuming you can just scavenge more ammo for it. But other than that it's looking to be a success. Especially since they got rid of Commando, Danger Close, and One Man Army. And that Scavenger does not refill your launcher ammo. Here's hoping it won't suck.
" ITS A KNIFE THAT SHOOTS KNIVES and you kill their owners with it. It's also a fantastic game if you enjoy stabbing people in the face and neck. You can even run up to people Shank style like Uh, Uh, Uh, Uh, Uh! It's oddly satisfying. "Here's the thing though. People still find reason to bitch about this as if it was a bad thing. Sometimes the internet really confuses me.
It's not enough evidence to make that claim. Try to find a few more examples. A counter point is treyarch didn't make a call of duty game that's over 90% yet, I don't think they are capable. They just don't have the talent of infinityward.
It's seems to be a much bigger effort than World at War was, that was just a carbon copy of COD4 the few changes they made were for the worse imo and the reason i detest MW2 is the amount of crazy perks and killstreaks and in the in every trailer for Black Ops they show of they new cool perks and killstreaks. I will keep an eye open for it but wont' hold my breath.
treyarch will always be stuck in the shadow of infinity ward until they stop making warfare games based on actual events and start making games that are based on whatever the hell they want to base it on, since they both make the same style of game, it's even under the same series title, they will always be too closely compared
i want a gun that shoots nazi skulls which are on fire. And when i die lightning hits my body and i come back to life.
its being made by Treyarch instant evidence the game will be more glitch filled and filled with more hackers.
Two reason it will rule: True Barebones and split screen online. Plenty of others but those are most important to me.
The wager modes look cool. <3 Gun Game.
I keep reading impressions from people who have played it talking about how it feels more like Call of Duty 2 than the Modern Warfare games. That is an astronomically massive plus in my book. I loved Call of Duty 2. If Treyarch's taking it back to CoD's PC heyday, then I'm all for it.
I'm one of the few people who actually enjoys every CoD game, so I'll probably like it no matter what.
PERKS - No Danger Close, No OMA, No Commando, No Stopping Power, No Juggernaut, No Deathstreaks.
Killstreaks can't be used to earn other killstreaks.
Combat Training (AKA bot matches) can be played in both local split-screen and/or online. You can have two players on the same system vs three online players and fill the rest up with bots.
Black Ops Developer when asked how grenade tube spam will be limited in Black Ops: "Scavenger does not refill; most expensive attachment; can't be used with Warlord (aka Bling in MW2)"
Hate all the killstreak spam of MW2? Optional playlists will include: Barebones Pure (No Perks, Killstreaks, Attachments, Equipment, or Contracts), Barebones Classic (Killstreaks at 3, 5 and 7), and Barebones Tactical (Pure version with mixed bag of objective modes).
Finally, a word about the theater mode from IGN:
It's one thing to put a Theater Mode into your games. It's quite another to rival even the current industry leaders at Bungie, but that's exactly what Treyarch is doing with Call of Duty: Black Ops. All of the standards are there -- a free roaming camera that can also lock on to players, clip and screenshot export, the ability to fast forward or rewind the action, and the option to browse your friend's shared files. There's also a whole lot more.
You can save segments and then clip them together and slow down or speed up the game speed while recording. Up to 100 of your most recent games over the past 7 days are saved automatically for you to later watch and edit. The timeline displayed during theater mode indicates all the kills in the match, a green mark for a kill, and a red mark for when you died, allowing you to quickly skip to the interesting parts of the match. The tools look super powerful -- both for the casual player that wants to know where jerks are camping and for the hardcore machinima maker.
" dedi servers and gun game. need i say more? "So it will be just as good as a game from 6 years ago?
ZING!
MW2 is an excellent game, but has a few things that hold it back a bit. By the sounds of it, Treyarch is going to address them.
I'm not worried about the RC car. They're probably not that good anyway, otherwise they'd make it a higher killstreak bonus. The videos always show the "ideal" scenario
" Modern Warfare 2 was my favorite game from last year(along with Uncharted 2), so any additions just makes me more excited for it. "It was one of my favorite games of last year as well. However, it still is. I play regularly with some of my buddies, and i'm not sure if i'm ready to spend another $60 on the Call of Duty franchise less than a year after MW2.
I'm also not big on Treyarch stripping things from MW2 (like OMA, changing the grenade launcher/scavenger). I suppose it had to be done though, as the community can't be trusted to play like gentlemen. Just a shame, since switching between my guns/perks is something I enjoy doing on MW2.
I don't know if it will be better, but I do know that it will be significantly more batshit crazy, whilst also hopefully not being the fairly unbalanced exploitation-fest of MW2 multiplayer. In any case, if I don't get Halo Reach I will get Black Ops, because my quota for multiplayer FPS games is only one a year.
Hahahahaha. That is fucking awesome." If this game has a rocket launcher that shoots chainsaws, then it will be a million times better then MW2. "
But yeah seriously, I'm so excited about this game since viewing the multiplayer videos and Treyarch interviews. I was going to give it a pass too, until I saw those! I'll be lining up at Midnight for sure to get this like i did for Halo Reach.
So you're saying the evidence is in you personal opinion? I thought WaW was awful. Every map was too dark, tanks were a pain, and every gun felt the same." it will be better. just look at waw and modern warfare 1. i thought waw was better with the small things. "
That is to say, I have my eye on Black Ops.
And people are still flexing their Internet biceps about MW2 being "bad" and "broken"? It has issues, that's all. If you want an example of a broken game, take a gander at Fallout 3 (and I enjoy me some Capital Wasteland).
treyarch is smart enough to put a timer on grenade launcher use at the beginning of the rounds, thats automatically significantly better than anything infinity ward has ever done.
"A counterpoint to your counter point is that InfinityWard doesn't have the talent of InfinityWard anymore either. Maybe I was the only one that noticed the mass exodus. It's not enough evidence to make that claim. Try to find a few more examples. A counter point is treyarch didn't make a call of duty game that's over 90% yet, I don't think they are capable. They just don't have the talent of infinityward.
"
I have to admit to being consistantly suprised by how good this game is looking, i really did think the loss of the IW guys would kill of COD but im more and more starting to question this. Ive probably seen about the same as everyone else so wont go into too much detail but the multiplayer leveling system seems really smart and the game seems to hold up well. Not saying ill buy it but i have definetly moved from a "NEVER" to a "Maybe".
World at War has been my favourite Call of Duty so far. MW2 seems to have more unfair lag and the fucking idiotic knifing range is something I'll never get over. And the maps don't impress.
No more Danger Close, scavenging or OMA for Black Ops? Oh hell, for the rest of the time I play MW2, I'm gonna go to TOWN with my RPG and M203's. CAUTION
@SpaceInsomniac
Good post.
i honestly dont know why some people choose to opt out of buying some damn good games just because a certain company makes them. but whatever, to each his own.
im sure this has been said before but at the end of the day, its all opinion based. some people will love this game and hate this game for the same reasons. me, im hearing that the multiplayer is far far less aggravating than mw2. i also hear they took out stopping power and commando. which is exactly what i didnt like about mw2. also, the combat training with bots and the zombie modes always keep me occupied. and i always love playing the singleplayer of cod games. no matter if the story sucks or not.
tldr: its opinion based, but i found reasons to look forward to it
seeing as how you look like you may be partially interested, just rent it from gamefly or something
edit: treyarch haters need to grow up. and also a game isnt "rushed" if its 2-3 years in development. especially a cod game.
MW2 did pretty much what Reach is doing now: I never had fun playing it
CoD4, Bad Company 2 or Team Fortress 2 I never have that issue much, even when I'm losing but I swear MW2 and Reach drive me up the wall. But one thing that I enjoy is not in Black Ops?
No.fucking.Commando.
I don't think we should convince this guy of anything. "Proud to have not given Activision a dime"? Fuck him, he's just going to complain bout it anyways.
