Here it is the definative and most important review..... oh and it's in German...or that might be French... on Metacritic.... a healthty combo.
Spoiler: It's a 7
Edit: Clearly i er'd in thinking what i was truly feeling would translate into text....
1: no it's not really troubling... i was amused.
2: I do know the difference between French and German as i speak partial French.... boredom causes one to post strange things for amusement.
Metacritic boredom search brings up troubling review.

Call of Duty: Black Ops, the test on Xbox 360
By Poischich, Gamekult.com - Date 11.08.2010 at 20.55
The game is virtually identical on different carriers, the tests are too.
Tested using a commercial version.
Real issue for Activision's Call of Duty is licensed for some years devoted to two developers: Infinity Ward, creator, and Treyarch, which deals since 2006 odd components of the series - the worst, actually. After four years in custody, the second knife could still keep his last chance with Call of Duty: Black Ops, whose launch is accompanied by a marketing campaign at least equivalent to that of an episode Infinity Ward. Especially, the studio finally decided to release the Second World War and gives us an episode released from a lot of historical constraints. And it feels ...
Jam to pigs
April 17, 1961, Bay of Pigs, Cuba. Infiltrated the army of mercenaries to overthrow the Castro regime, the CIA agents about to enter the home of Fidel Castro to put permanently out of harm's way all young Líder Máximo. Also missed the landing itself, the operation will pay - in conditions quite incredible - the capture of Alex Mason, who despite appearances is our hero of the day. Prisoner of the Soviet prisons, after an exchange of favors with the Soviet Union, he managed to escape from the gulag of Vorkuta with the help of Viktor Reznov, already seen in World at War, before plunging into the Vietnam War , which arise early rumors of a gas bacteriological prepared by the Russians. Baikonur in Cuba, through the Vietnam War, the first skirmishes until the Tet offensive, we will see the country and undeniably one encounters even a few familiar faces, with Kennedy and Nixon as guest stars.
But before we get to the bottom of this thrilling story, yet will he have to move things forward, rifle in hand. Again, the influence of Modern Warfare on Treyarch's work is obvious, and we do not necessarily going to complain. Diverse, varied in the places visited but also in situations, the campaign combines skilfully ground battles and phases of infiltration, many must have seen quite the topic. Beginning of each mission, or almost, is the opportunity to move forward on tiptoe, knife between teeth or silencer screwed onto the barrel, for a sequence of discrete removal of the enemy rather conventional. Then, as nothing ever seems to take place as planned in the special forces, an explosion or an alarm is triggered and our hero and his cohorts find themselves forced to do battle, emptying whole villages of their occupants by the omnipotence of their assault rifle.
The recipe is not new, but it still works through careful in the staging - and scripts, of course. Cornerstone of the gameplay Call of Duty, these marvels of modern game design are still here and give them out at random a particular flavor. How not to be shocked when a giant Soviet flows spontaneously in an armored door open for us the way, even if it means letting life? Similarly, hard not to pay its small tear of emotion when you see a teammate arise from a window, hanging from a rope and crashing to the frail figure of a man on patrol, at the very moment one enters a room. All this brings a lot of life to the game, and of course place the player at the center of the action. Again, Treyarch has not surpassed the master Infinity Ward, and the staging does not reach the excesses of previous phases. Similarly, the level design does not display the same control, with levels often with little relief or surprise, and AI deserved a bit more work: we see regularly and teammates and enemies to cross quietly, without getting shot. This is particularly annoying that they have, often enough, the same head.
But we let ourselves be pleasantly still in this campaign, certainly short enough, but no real time out and probably a little longer than Modern Warfare 2, this time with 6-7 hours of gameplay on the meter. Failing to outdo his predecessor in the narration, the mise en scene or the big show, Black Ops has assets to bring in the use of such vehicles. Although more prevalent and varied (motorcycles, tanks, jeeps, patrol boats, helicopters ...), they are better used and serve as supports to sequences quite successful. It will be appreciated and the behavior of the helicopter, which combines automatic steering and hand controls for a very successful outcome, or some heartfelt moments of bravery in command of a boat ... even if the soundtrack used by the developer for this sequence, the Sympathy for the Devil Rolling Stones, is probably not for nothing that the benefit is brought to this mission.
Always better to two
Call of Duty: Black Ops (X360)
But Treyarch has also considered the multiplayer title, and with talent. The basic gameplay of Call of Duty multiplayer certainly has not fundamentally changed with this episode, and there is therefore a system of continuous experience, the perks / benefits and other weapons to unlock, all in a gaggle of game modes . In addition, fifteen cards are available with the game, mostly based on the sets of the campaign, and they are fairly good. Note also the appearance of extensions to add on weapons, like a flame thrower - not sure that's enough to offset the feeling still a little way of weapons, including various shotgun.
But the developer wants to make new well felt, and therefore welcome the players (with a little caution) a system of money to buy what you normally unblocked with experience. The principle is nothing dazzling, but it can introduce some special game modes, centered around paris: by betting a little money, players gifted (or lucky) enough to win rounds will leave with a real bonanza, enabling them to invest more quickly and climb the ladder four to four. What motivate some hardcore players who want to cut corners, failing to excite others.
For more casual players, or simply those who want to earn their medals to the strength of kill streaks, note the addition of many additional customization tools and the opportunity - finally - to save replays, just to watching them quietly at their leisure. Above all, fans of the zombie mode of World at War (or Left 4 Dead) will be delighted to find a game mode that has not lost its fun, playable online with four - and two split-screen, as rest of the multi elsewhere. One card is automatically available in an old theater Nazi, but a bonus a bit crazy including some guests is available at the end of the campaign.
A word, finally, achieving the title. As the campaign itself, it is quite uneven and somewhat disappointing on the first missions of the title, but she earns as strangely as and when, including a beautiful part of Vietnam. The characters have also been modeled and animated with great care, and cutscenes to make a lot of impact. This time, we note that the logo 18 that adorns the box is not stolen and that the wholesale slaughters plan does not fail. Similarly, Treyarch has inspired Soldier of Fortune and just equip a shotgun for stealing arms and legs of our poor opponents. Hmm.

I was worrying that it wouldn't work well with my carrier. Glad to hear it's the same game regardless of carrier. "

"If the site gave ME2 and RE5 7's, then that bodes quite well for Black OPs. Out of curiosity, what did this site give a 9 or 10?
A lot of European websites judge games harshly (see Eurogamer and Gamesweasel for example) a 7 from them could be a 9 from Gamespot for example. They judge games by their artistic nature and whether or not they pushed the envelope in anyway. They might say "The game is fun and fans will eat it up, but it could've been much more..." and give it a 7/10.

I think sites that have a record of giving great games only decent scores are probably looking for page views.
" Judging by the fucking long line I'm currently stood in, I'd guess around 200m, not many people are waiting for the reviews and probably couldnt give two shits about what the bloody French think "Midnight release? That means you're going to spend around 5-8 (depending on where you live) more hours standing in line? Crazy.

I was looking at Gamekult's Metacritic's stats, and 97% of the games they review are reviewed lower than the average critic.
Also, the highest score they've ever given out is a 9 to Read Dead Redemption. I know scores aren't everything, but they must have some depressed reviewers or they have a wacky review scale.
I totally agree with the review scale of this site. I mean the 0-50% region is hardly used in reviews. Partly because gamers and reviewers have some common (game) sense and avoid games which are obviously bad. But a lot is score inflation. 9/10 should really be reserved for masterpieces and 10/10 for those rare games which are eath-shattering novel and maybe define/start/end a genre. (8/10 therefore are very good games, 7/10 still absolutely good games)
