Nope, best by far in my opinion, you're entitled to yours though. Doubt you'll find many who agree.
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Game » consists of 19 releases. Released Nov 09, 2010
The seventh installment of the long-running action franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops puts players into the early era of the Cold War (including the Vietnam War) as a member of the United States black operations unit known as the SOG.
The worst SP campaign of the COD series?
Agreed. Black Ops is easily better than MW2 and Treyarch definitely upped their game from World at War. Plus, Treyarch storylines always seem to make at least a little sense. Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare stories got so convoluted, especially the second one." Black Ops was better then both MW2 and WAW. I really don't understand some your complaints. The Sam stuff? Yea, he sounded aussie but I was able to look past it. "
I really enjoyed the campaign in Black Ops. The story was interesting (though I'm still not sure how I feel about the twist) and Reznov and Woods were great characters. The CoD 3 campaign is still the worst in the series as far as I'm concerned.
There is absolutely no way any sane person can think the story in COD:MW and COD:MW2 were any beter than in Black Ops. That's like saying "yo, District 9 was a shit ass movie, because it didn't have Will Smiff punching aliens at the white house and destroying alien invaders by infecting the mothership with a virus from an Apple laptop, dawg!".
Everything after the first three COD titles have had retarded stories that can most charitably be called "summer popcorn action film blockbuster blow-'em-ups". Hell, Modern Warfare 2's story didn't even make sense. The plotholes around the whole No Russian thing were enormous.
The story in Black Ops is just as good as the previous two. And just as dumb.

i mean, it jumps around so much and it feels like more cut scene than gameplay.
in many its better than mw2, and in others it isnt
I enjoyed the Vietnam and WW2 levels, those were pretty fun. On the other hand, I didn't much care for the framing of the story, (Mason's interrogation) the enemy AI, (felt scripted) or Mason's horrible, sometimes Australian-sounding voice acting.
I thought it was quite a bit better than MW2's campaign.
The story was pretty interesting as far as I'm concerned. Nice change of pace to a more Clancy-esque, tighter focus. Every Call of Duty game I've played has been great (granted I've not played CoD3 or the last generation console versions) and I really can't understand anybody's assertion that MW2 was dull. The games are a fun homage to that bombastic style of overblown action and play amazingly. You're right about the AI, some of that stinks, but really the CoD games are well respected and such a financial success for a reason. They're all great fun so long as you don't take them/yourself too seriously.
I kinda 'love' the campaign. For the setting and Reznow and the SOG badasses.
Some AI stuff pissed me off (friend and foe AI ignoring each other leading to enemies coming up behind me, even if there are like 10 friendly AI mates covering my back), as well as some hiccups in the 'Player Direction' - such communitcating the need to 'Stab the Napalm Barrels and kick them down the hill' and 'Use the rocketlauncher to shoot down the rocket - stupid!'.
I respectfully disagree. I think that out of the past 4 games it has the best campaign, unlike MW2 it had some sort of plot to link all the ridiculous set pieces together in a coherent narrative and to be honest the gameplay is no better or worse than any of the previous games and at least they threw in some variation with the helicopter and Blackbird levels. However Sam Worthington is the worst. Why of all the 20-30 something actors that could have easily fit that role did they pick him? If they continue with this set of characters I hope they use some of the profits to pay for some acting lessons for him.
" Call of Duty 3 was easliy the worst. "I agree, it was sooo mediocer and boring
Was I the only one, when you came out of the water in the end and see all of the Navy ships and jets, that said "AMERICA! FUCK YEAH!"
The worst part of the SP was the shaky-camera, I got such a headache that I had to sleep it of..., I tried for 3 days to play it, but I cant finish the damn game due to the shaky camera.... WTF
I think Black Ops is the best of the bunch.
Also, why are people still commenting on this? (Including me).
A good deal of people seem to forget that the quality of CoD pre-Modern Warfare wasn't all that great. And maybe it's too early to talk, but putting MW2's single-player experience above Black Ops seems crazy to me. I loved MW2, but the campaign just got so weighed down by this wanna-be-deep rhetoric about history that cut off halfway through. And while I do appreciate that they went for quality over quantity, the story just hacked off in the middle and I still don't understand the motives of some of those characters.
I thought Black Ops was the best so far. It had a great story like CoD 4, but had all the action of Modern Warfare 2. Best of both worlds.
Also, I believe the game has a fantastic campaign. They really mixed up the action so that you were not doing any one thing for too long before you were doing something else. As for the trench level, of course its going to be hard. Did you see how many Vietcong were rushing your position?
Storywise, it has to be one of the better COD story's in like ever. You could follow it. It made sense. Black Ops destroys the Modern Warfare stories in every way.
I felt the COD4 story was great, that Modern Warfare 2 had lots of explosions on screen all the time without too much of any plot to be seen.
I liked Black Ops' campaign because it was different, in the way that you don't switch between a couple of people, and instead focus on one guy's story.
I feel that both BLOPS and MW2 tried to create an action movie feel. So I rate both games on how "on the edge of my seat" was I playing both games. While MW2 was just flipping ridiculous, I cannot help but remember that I could not put the controller down til I finished the game. I did not enjoy the story as much as MW (imo, the best in the series), but I could not step away from MW2's campaign once I started. SO BLOPS is worse than MW2, but not the worst.... that goes to WaW.
" I think MW2 was the worst campaign in the series, but thats just me. "
" @kmg90: " And they had to use Gary Oldman's annoying voice TWICE!?" This already nullifies your argument. Gary Oldman is a great actor. "Yep, anyone against Gary Oldman automatically loses in my book.
Bad AI?"BLABLABLA... character, however his story not so much.
The press <button> to <insert action here> parts were just plain bad....
MAJOR PROBLEM
The AI was the worst I've ever seen for BOTH sides of the battlefield, I've been killed so many times following a sqaudmates (like the game instructs you to do) and have a enemies that IGNORES the friendly (that also is IGNORING said enemy) shoot and kill me instead. The "flashbacks" were annoying, seriously what a way to break the flow of game-play than to have short unskippble that does absolutely nothing but disrupt said flow. I love the return of the infinite respawning soldiers and grenades, the Kahn San Level is absolutely a nightmare. BLABLABLA...

MW2 was by far the worst. It was horribly broken and confusing with all the sudden plot twists and the exhausting pace that they happened. Constant switching between characters that had no personality, face or voice to completetly different locations that at some points didn't even make any sense.
Best was probably CoD2 but that might be because of my nostalgia glasses. From the current gen ones I'd say WaW because I belong to the minority that still enjoys the WWII era and it's clearly the best WWII FPS game I've played. BLOPS wasn't bad. It had problems but I really liked how they actually went with pretty much one charater in the whole game plus I though the "smash button to make X" were pretty neat. I must say that Sam Worthington was not the best choice to voice the MC. I also found Ice-Something (Cube?) person as the black fellow annoying as hell.
I saw the title of this thread and immediately thought about that Giant Bomb Thread Name Generator thing.
Black Ops might have the dumbest single player I've ever played. Dumb in the same way a summer action movie is dumb. Not terrible, not even close to good, but a decent way to spend some time.
Although the cut scene after the credits makes playing the campaign worth every second.
