Overview
Call of Duty: Vanguard is a historical-military first-person shooter developed by Sledgehammer Games (along with Treyarch and several others) and published by Activision for the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 5, 2021.
The eighteenth main installment of the Call of Duty series (and a successor to the 2017 game Call of Duty: WWII), Vanguard brings the series back to World War II while introducing new tactical gameplay mechanics (such as using destructible environments and blind-firing from behind cover).
The game's main story is set throughout the war in a non-chronological order, mostly as flashbacks from the perspective of four Allied soldiers (the "Task Force Vanguard") captured during their attempt to thwart the top-secret Nazi project "Project Phoenix" near the end of the war. These soldiers include British Arthur Kingsley, Russian Polina Petrova, American Wade Jackson, and Australian Lucas Riggs, each of which took part in different fronts at different stages of the war.
Along with a single-player campaign, it features the series' traditional multiplayer (some of which is integrated with Call of Duty: Warzone, with a progression system linked to that, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War) and a Zombies mode that serves as a prequel to the Zombies mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. New multiplayer features include "Combat Pacing" (curated playlists based on playstyle), a weapon caliber system (with ammunition types affecting environments differently), an update to the 2v2 Gunfight mode ("Champion Hill", which features a multi-squad round-robin tournament)
