I own only COD4 and CODMW2. MW2 really turned me off on the franchise. The story was stupid in the second one and the multiplayer catered way too much to people who only play COD.
Call of Duty
Originally starting as a World War II-themed first-person shooter, the Call of Duty franchise now incorporates other time periods and conflicts and can be found on virtually every modern platform.
Last Call of Duty you bought.
Black Ops and I had bought COD4 and MW2 before that. MW2 was a pretty good game that everyone is acted very jaded against. None of the storylines were very good in these games. To come out and suddenly say "Well MW2 is where I draw the line!" is kind of absurd. It was a bombastic, thrill ride with houses exploding left and right which isn't a bad thing in my opinion.
Black Ops had a really good campaign and the numbers stuff added to the intrigue even if you could tell from the beginning what the big twist was going to be. There is a mission where it's basically a turret sequence but a Rolling Stones song comes on and it feels great.
@mikey87144: concerning your comment about the multiplayer - who should the online multiplayer of a Call of Duty game cater to if not COD players? I certainly don't go into a COD game expecting Halo multiplayer and vice versa.
Call of Duty 2 -- Don't know why they didn't make CoD 3 on PC or that probably would have been the last one I bought. I'm glad my PC couldn't handle CoD 4 because after watching it more and more and finally playing it on console, I thought the franchise was over.
@Humanity: I'm not talking about catering to the fans. I played the shit out of COD4 and was excited to check out the second MW. I was talking about catering to the person who only buys COD and who only plays COD. All the power ups felt too beneficial to that guy, (or gal).

MW2 was the last one I bought -- and will remain the last one. It's the game that made me realize that I don't really care to play FPSs anymore, and I'm especially uninterested in the sort of multiplayer COD offers. It's still great if you want that sort of thing, I just don't.
MW2. I enjoyed it for a few weeks but there was always something broken and being exploited (although, the javilen trick that turned you into a walking bomb was pretty hilarious for a while). I haven't been interested in picking up another CoD since.
I liked CoD4:MW on the PC and was very hyped when MW2 came along. But it never satisfied me like CoD4 did.
I bought every CoD except War at War, but I won't buy BLOPS2. I'm done with FPS'.
..wonder what the QL to BLOPS2 will be about.. in the BLOPS1 QL Jeff analogously said: "They won't get away with making this same game over and over again" ... huh. ^^
MW3, which I initially liked, but soured on over time, especially as the DLC stuff got so weird thanks to portioning it off for Elite and whatnot, some maps out this day for X group, this day for Y group, then this 1 map is out at another time for everybody... I didn't really come back to it to try that stuff out because I had no real idea when it was actually dropping.
Picking up Blops II tomorrow, and rather excited for it. Strangely I don't really consider myself a CoD fan, but I've actually bought all of them since World at War! In the future though I think I'm just going to go for the Treyarch-made ones. I've been consistently impressed with the stuff Treyarch have done with Call of Duty from WaW onwards, and increasingly frustrated with IW's arrogance and refusal to acknowledge Treyarch's inputs, just because they're (or 'were', now, as they're a shadow of their former selves) the 'main' developer.

BOOM ZING ZANG KAPOW
As for me, the last game I bought new was Call of Duty World At War. I bought Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 from a friend for 5$ and lastly, got a used copy of Call of Duty: Black Ops for Christmas (I requested used).
I've snagged used copies of Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3. I guess that means Modern Warfare 2 was the last one I officially purchased.
i haven't brought a single one, my housemate does though, so i'v played CoD4 (fantastic) and MW2 (less so) and i also borrowed CoD3 off of a workmate (shite)
While drunk I bought Black Ops off STEAM late one night.
Didn't like it at all. I had to pick up the game at three separate attempts just to see the single player campaign through.
Think I've only been online once or twice.
I'm so sad I caved to the hype and bought at full price.
I've never bought one. The last one I played was CoD2 for flip phones or possibly CoD2 on PC. I played those at around the same time on my friends machines. My PC couldn't handle CoD2 so I couldn't get it.
Heeeeh, uuuhh, that would be Modern Warfare 3—don't worry, I've learned my lesson. I mean, I found the plots of the MW games to be hilariously ridiculous, and I really did love World at War (the Russian campaign), and actually enjoyed some of the characters in the recent games...but I do not find the games worth their price. So if I get any more games, it'll be some of the earlier ones (the original Modern Warfare, COD4, being the "oldest" of the COD games I've played), else I'll wait until the most recent ones are dirt cheap (which will be years from now, and by then I will have lost interest, I hope).
I think it was MW2. I came to it way after it came out, because it took forever for it to drop in price (I was not going to pay $60 for that game), so I was way underleveled compared to everyone else, and the lack of a server browser actually did bum me out. I was done with it after that. I will probably get BlOps 2, though. The changes to the class building sound interesting, and I like that it's not the same damn weapons of the last few games.
Black Ops and fucking loved it, best MP and matchmaking out of all the games hated MW2 system of killstreaks can get you more killstreaks. But didnt touch MW3 at all so might pick up Black Ops 2 if it reviews well.

I remember joining a room a couple of week after launch and there was no reloading on weapons, so you could hold down a grenade launcher like a SMG, I ended up getting the AC130 on this map and painted the map with the biggest shell like a machine gun....So good.
