Overview
Some games have a multiplayer mode that is exactly like Capture the Flag, except instead of capturing an actual flag, the players must capture some other object. The difference in this regard is mostly cosmetic, although such modes in some games do change up the gameplay.
Examples
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
In The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, players fight to obtain "force gems."
Far Cry 2
In Far Cry 2, players battle for possession of blood diamonds.
Conker's Bad Fur Day
In War mode in Conker's Bad Fur Day, players need to capture canisters of deadly nerve gas, at which point a countdown begins that ends with the death of every player who is not sealed in a dispenser room or wearing a gas mask, possibly racking up massive points for the gassing team.
Team Fortress 2
In Team Fortress 2, players vie for briefcases full of enemy blueprints; while carrying a briefcase, pages will slip out, leaving a visual trail that allows enemy players to follow the "flag" carrier more effectively.
