A shallow gamificaiton of repairing cars
Fixing different car problems for money feels like a suitable gameplay mechanic (no pun intended). The problem is that not enough effort is put into the execution of this idea. Everything is too simplistic and shallow and some features are hardly useful at all.
You need to locate the broken parts based on a client's request and then replace them with a part bought with the help of a computer. Occasionally you have to replace oil. That is more or less it. The amount of parts you get to work with in any particular car is quite limited. There are different cars but the difference between their insides is negligible. So far, I have only seen the engine block and the wheels change somewhat, and they only changed per type of car and not per car.
There is a basic skill leveling system, a test driving course and a few other features that are pretty much useless and do not affect the gameplay in any meaningful way. Everything is bare bones and feels a bit lazy, which is a shame because the basics are there to make an interesting game. Finding the problem and then stamping "repaired" on the repair order form is satisfying. The removal and assembly feels smooth. The concept has potential.
Unfortunately, this game is too simplified for an adult and perhaps too boring for a child. If you are interested in assembly and disassembly, there is a game called World of Guns which does that much better. It is difficult to recommend this game, though if it may be worth a try if the price drops below 10 buks.
