The reason the title of this forum post is a question is so I can answer it. I'm going to go with "yes."

I don't understand why everyone is in love with this game. I'm all about getting hyped up over a game, but I just don't see it. I played a lot of side-scrolling brawlers in my SNES days, but really the only thing this has going for it is its wonderful art style. However, art style does not a beat-em-up make. Is there something revolutionizing the genre in the game that I don't know about? I'm sure the game could be good, but worthy of its fanboydom it is not.

I think it's hyped because its a dead genre these days, and people miss it.  It's also impossible to tell if a game is "over-hyped" without actually playing it.

I don't know maybe the game is over-hyped. For me it's really all about the artstyle in Castle Crashers.
Having played Alien Hominid for a bit I thought that it wasn't a great game but nevertheless fun to play because of how the characters were designed and how the game is full of funny, quirky ideas.
I don't expect more of Castle Crashers except being able to play coop with my friends.

If it's overhyped, then just about every moderately good game is overhyped these days.

Yeah. I just dont get what people see in this game.

If you don't get it, find 3 friends, and find a Turtles in Time or Battletoads machine in a local arcade. Even that arcade simpsons game. Get these friends, and go play.

Somebody called this game racist, citing the people with brownish hoods on their heads as "black people"

I think just because of that incident, this game cannot be anything short of fantastic

If it's like Alien hominid I'll pass. If I really wanna play a sidescroller with three friends, which I normally don't because one person is always too good, one person always sucks, and the two others are in the middle and it's just annoying, I'll play Aegis Wing.

I'm excited because it's a sidescrolling beat em' up and I really miss that genre of games.
