The remaster we didn't need but the game still holds up.
If I took the time to write down every game that I thought needed a remaster I don't think Castle Crashers would be on it. They decided to put one out and give it to anyone that owned the original release so I ended up playing it a month later cooperatively with a friend. Which is the best way to play it since playing alone goes against what they were going for when making this game. After all it is a classic beat em up in every way with a touch of absurd humor to keep you going just to see the next pointlessly stupid thing happen.
The set up of the story is so simple they don't even need words. A warlock comes by and steals a giant powerful crystal that must be recaptured by a band of loyal knights. The knights come in the 7 colors of the rainbow and many more since the one thing this game has is a lot of things to unlock. They all play the same with a weak and heavy attack being their offence. Along with a magic attack that'll look different depending on the knight chosen but they all have a similar effect on enemies. Each stage in the game is also themed differently with plenty of different enemies and bosses to challenge your dodging skills.
The game is set up to be replayed a lot with the myriad of weapons/animal buddies to collect that'll keep you coming back if you enjoy the gameplay. Although they don't quite get everything right especially with certain bosses. None of the bosses are very complicated and it is easy to figure out their patterns. Which makes some fights feel like it is just a test of endurance. The game itself also seems unbalanced towards the player since near the end we were using a lot of potions. But I kinda expect that was the plan since it is emulating a arcade game.
Still Castle Crashers remains a fun game to play. If your in the mood to hack and slash you way through a legion of foes this game would be right up your alley.
