10 – Complete awe, a masterpiece, evolutionary in gaming.

9 – Wow, nearly perfected experience that emphasizes all of the qualities of its genre.

8 – Great game that is executed fantastically.

7 – Good game, just short of something fantastic.

6 – It’s alright, so-so, and a bit of meh.

5 – Poor.

4 – I’m sure something in there is fun…

Aspects that determine the grading scale.

Graphics, Character Performance, and Animation all tie together for the game’s overall aesthetic qualities, themes, or artistic aspirations.

A game’s value is basically “Bang for your buck”.

Fun Factor is simply the game’s enjoyablility and how satisfied I was with gameplay throughout. A game’s fun factor can be directly influenced by a game’s value and vice versa. For example, if the value is low due to frequent bugs or a short playtime it can drag down the fun factor or if a game is bug-free or filled with a ton of bland content (which would otherwise usually raise value) but is not fun to play then the fun factor influences the overall value of the game.

The Story’s score is directly influenced by voice acting performers, script, and the dynamic events that role the narrative of the game.

The controls of a game are graded on their responsiveness, intuitive action and reaction of what a player would want to do, and how well the actions/buttons used are mapped on key functions.

The interfacing of the game is directly influenced by the games use of menus, heads-up display, and other on-screen information and how well the player can or cannot interact with it.

The sound of the game is graded on the various aspects of sound effects, music, quality, and execution of these implementations into the game.

The learning curve of a game is measured on how difficult a game is to pick up and play by gamers and newcomers alike. This almost never has an influence on a game’s overall score.

The total is the average sum of the grades given to each the graphics, fun factor, story, controls, UI, sound, and the value of the game.
