Who else absolutely LOVED that this didn't have a happy ending?? I was soooooooo not looking forward to a cliched ending where Gabrial saves his girl and the world. To see the protagonist in despair and to eventually transform into Dracula was such a good ending. This should happen more in games.

In this reboot of the beloved Castlevania franchise, Gabriel Belmont goes on a quest to defeat the sinister Lords of Shadow, who are preventing the souls of the departed from passing on to the afterlife, in order to obtain from them a magical mask that will bring his murdered wife Marie back from the dead.
Spoilers. I cant even post a proper title. Just Spoilers.
When it showed a modern day city it just blew my mind right open.
Also, Zobek in a suit is mad stylin'.
Okay, I knew it was best to wait a little bit to actually look at this thread....really was tempted to read since I thought I was far enough in the game but seriously dude, mention that it's the ending at least...I didn't click it but thats because I am paranoid.
ANYWAYS - The last chapter was awesome when they introduced Satan. My friend spoiled the part where Zobek was the last LoS and Gabriel would become Dracula (which I didn't believe) so Satan's intro was something awesome. However, once I saw Zobek at the epilogue jump out of that cloak and saw a suit I immediately though "no...way...." and once Gabriel made it through the cathedral glass and saw Metropolis, my eyes widened and then screamed "NO FUCKING WAY!".
Thank you MercuryStream, for giving me hope that there will be hope in this new reboot. You really made the GotY for me, hope that you get the support/following you rightso deserve.
I didnt really like LoS portrayal of satan. He looked like the lead of any other castlevania game, very feminine.
Zobek being evil was mad predictable and Satan appearing was kind of nonsensical to me, so the post-credits scene was an excellent way to save the end. When Ga-uh, Dracula was thrown out the window and it was a modern day city, my mind exploded.
Also, the Slogra (I think that's what they're called?) in the background in the cathedral that he was hiding in made me smile.
hahahahaha my thoughts exactly" crap i shouldn't have read that "
o well. didnt really care. after God of War 3, my "action adventure" fix is done with. (The Last Guardian not included)
I have to agree though, I loved every minute of Lords of Shadow.
Tell me about it. Part of me wants to see how his transformation took place and the other half wants the sequel to begin where this one ended. Either way i loved this game.
" I didnt really like LoS portrayal of satan. He looked like the lead of any other castlevania game, very feminine. "Well he was an angel before, he became the lord of hell.
Also this was like a 1000 years ago, maybe he didn't get all demony looking yet.
Just seen the ending and was absolutely blown away.
In Gabriel's bio, it says that he was an orphan dropped off at the Brotherhood gates most likely by the wealthy Cronqvist family. If you've played Lament of Innocence, you'll know that Mathias Cronqvist is actually Dracula. It's possible that Gabriel is the bastard son of Mathias Cronqvist and that his immortality and vampirism came to him genetically.

You could tell throughout the game that Zobek wasn't who he seemed. Also, in one of the chapter introductions he actually refers to Gabriel as the Prince of Darkness and he seemed to revel in the fact that the shadow magic was taking over Gabriel.

So throughout the game there are references both in Zobek's introduction to each chapter and in the scrolls that Gabriel recovers from his fallen brethren that using Shadow Magic starts to change a man, that it starts to take over your mind and soul and that you start to become blood-thirsty and actually enjoy the killing rather than just doing God's will." So im a little confused how did he become Dracula? "
As others have eluded to, Gabriel was granted immortality; if you live forever and the Shadow Magic is taking over your body/mind/soul you're eventually going to become someone quite evil. How he becomes Dracula himself appears to have been answered by a previous user.
I don't think anyone really knows yet. One theory is that this game is set in a different timeline, but with so many references to other Castlevania games it doesn't make any sense if that were the case. Like, why bother mentioning the Cronqvists, why have the ending where Death and Dracula team up, why name him Belmont, etc. Hell, as you progress along the game you get to see how Gabriel's Holy Cross comes to be named the Vampire Killer." ...so wait, the guy in this game is the Dracula for future Castlevania? "
@OneAndOnlyBigE: One thing I don't get is that if that theory is true, there are now two Draculas. Unless, Mathias was killed and killed for good, while Gabriel is the Dracula that is eternal. After all, he was granted Immortality. I don't think Mathias was actually granted immortality by the gods as Gabriel was. Another cool thing to mention about his genetics is that it's constantly referred to in the game that he is "prone to dark moods".
It has to be a whole different timeline/universe. theory: you're gonna play as dracula in an open world! or at least something similar to Darksiders, both in setting and hunting down the devil.
I thought this game was a total reboot of the continuity. Have I been casting my unending scorn at it for no reason?
" @lovecreep: To be fair, he did say spoilers as his title. I have to agree though, I loved every minute of Lords of Shadow. "
yeah i know i was just being funny
although i will admit some times when it says spoilers some one is just talking about a boss but not this time.
