Overview
Charmeleon is the Fire-type evolution of Charmander, one of the three starter Pokémon in Pokémon versions
Red & Blue
, as well as
LeafGreen & FireRed
. It first appeared in the
Anime Cartoon series
when Ash's Charmander evolved (Episode 43 "The March of the Exeggutor Squad"). In this episode, Charmeleon began showing further display of disrespect towards Ash, showing an example of the inherent trait of hotheadedness in this Pokémon and its evolved form
Charizard
.
As a Fire-type Pokémon, Charmeleon only takes half of the normal damage from Fire, Grass, Ice, Bug, and Steel-type attacks. However, it takes double damage from Water, Ground, and Rock-type moves. When fighting against the player's rival, Charmeleon is often pitted against its arch-nemesis
Wartortle
, the evolved form of the water-type starter from both games.
Charmeleon is the evolved form of Charmander. Deeper in color from its pre-evolved form, Charmeleon is less child-like, its form closer to a raptor in shape and size verses Charmander's smaller 'baby-dino' shape. What was a small flame on Charmander's tail has grown to a larger blaze on Charmeleon, an indication of Charmeleon's greater strength and control.
Evolution
Beginning as early as level 16 when evolved from Charmander, Charmeleon keeps its Fire type, remaining strong against Bug, Ice, Steel, and Grass-types. Charmeleon evolves into Charizard at level 36 with no special requirements.
