Games that give the player only a limited amount of time to choose whether to continue or not. This concept is most often seen in arcade titles and their home ports.
The CP System is a family of arcade system hardware manufactured by Capcom for their arcade games from 1988 to 1999, including the Street Fighter II and Street Fighter III games.
Game Over originally appeared in pinball machines, and later, arcade machines. When players lose at a game, it is game over.
A concept SNK used during the last years of Neo-Geo games. These games had over 500 megabits in the game cartridge. They were made to compete with Capcom's CPS-3 technology.
Almost a common thing in Fighting Games where player 2 or 1 inserts the coins, pressing start or entering the online lobby when the player 1 or 2 is playing arcade mode or training mode in modern days.
The concept of lives in video games evolved to let the player get a second chance after failing once. The most recognizable symbol is the heart.
Found in games with point-totals in which a single point is added to the tally each time a continue is used.
Rather than leaving each player to their own devices and deaths, some multiplayer modes pool the total number of lives or respawns that can be used among the entire team. Then the blaming starts.
