    Overview

Cosmo Gang: The Video and Cosmo Gang: The Puzzle are two Namco arcade games based on characters from their 1990 arcade electro-mechaical redemption game Cosmo Gangs. The first is based on their earlier shoot-'em-up game Galaxian, and the second is a unique take on the falling-block puzzle game (similar to Columns and Puyo Puyo).

The concept behind the series involves little cutesy aliens called Cosmos, and a gang of Cosmo space thieves led by Don Cosmo.

    Cosmo Gangs

The original Cosmo Gangs builds on the physical electro-mechanical arcade game aspect used by Namco's earlier Gator Panic, with five toy Cosmos moving across the playfield towards the player in an effort to drag Energy Boxes back to their spaceship. Players are given a fixed ray gun that shoots beams of light (similar to a laser pointer) and must shoot the light sensors on their bodies to drive them back before they manage to steal one of the Energy Boxes. If successful in fending back three waves of Cosmos, the Cosmos themselves perform a little dance for the player.

The game itself was recreated with touchscreen controls in the Games Museum (Elemecha Museum in the JP version) part of the Nintendo DS game Point Blank DS, along with Shoot Away II, Gator Panic, and Cracky Crab.

A toy version of the game was also released by Sega at the time.
