After watching a few trailers and reading more about Costume Quest, it seems like a game I can totally get into. It looks ridiculous and comical, has a nice art style that I can get behind, and what seems like a pretty neat premise for gameplay...I think.
Because of the early marketing behind Brutal Legend, many thought it was just an action/adventure game in the same vein as Devil May Cry or God of War with some open world exploration. Little did anyone know until the handful of weeks before the game's release that it was more of a poorly executed and blandly boring RTS game than anything else.
Therefore, I want to ask the Giant Bomb community - because of the cherade that Brutal Legend pulled, do you feel like maybe Costume Quest has more behind it than the simple stuff that we seem to be seeing and being told? Is it really an action/RPG type of game, or is there something else that it isn't telling us about?
I genuinely want to get excited about the game, but I'm afraid that we'll get blindsided with some crazy shit at some point...

So It's Really A Racing Game?
" I doubt they'll pull something like that again. They'll market it correctly, I think. "
I liked brutal legends RTS gameplay.
But yeah I don't see them pulling that with these new games. From what I've been able to gather from various articles, it seems like brutal legend was originally intended to be a straight up RTS game but then vivendi told them to make it an action game, then somewhere down the line it was turned into an open world game, then finally when they went back to EA they made it an RTS game again. I fully blame publisher interference for the problems brutal legend had.
That said, I really doubt THQ is going to interfere with this game in any meaningful way.
They talked about BL being an RTS ahead of time. And they already have 3 other projects lined up, not as much is riding on this.
" They talked about BL being an RTS ahead of time.Exactly. I agree that the marketing for the game was quite off, but from what I recall, they were pretty straightforward with exactly what kind of game it was going to be.
I predict tons of good sillyness and hopefully several innovative concepts, but I'm pretty sure that what we've already seen is what we'll get. Which is nothing but a good thing!
I'd like to think they will be more open as to what you can expect in this game. We'll have to wait and see to know for sure though.
I don't think a downloadable game would justify programming TWO distinctly different gameplay systems such as RPG combat and racing.
