Game » consists of 2 releases. Released Apr 15, 2009

Arctic-themed Cryostasis has players explore a relatively faithfully constructed Soviet-era nuclear ice-breaker. Game mechanics include using heat and exhaustion to represent player stamina, using heat sources to regain this stamina, and the use of a flashback ability to alter the past.

    Tech demo.
I doubt any PCs will manage to run that at playable speeds any time soon.

Amazing, is that water working like I think it is?  Is each drop collecting on the floor?  Then a can rolls and pushes it out of the way.  Looks very cool.

Those water physics are impressive if you look closely it seems once the particles are attached to a surface they use some sort of height map to predict how to behave on it, man I wish I could jump into the future 10 years and see what gaming visuals are going to be like...

By the way, if you want to see if your pc can handle it the tech demo is actually avaliable for download. Just search for it in google, there are many places.

Lets see if my 8800Ultra can pull this beast off...

There is an article about running the tech demo here. They did prove me wrong as they have managed to render the game at a playable rate albeit with an incredibly powerful rig.

My friends and I were discussing recently how we thought that games couldn't graphically progress much further than they have today.
    ...
    We were wrong.

What made you think that? I haven't seen any evidence that the advancement of computer graphics is decreasing, they just keep getting better and better. You always see a game developer introduce a new shader or rendering technique and then the industry takes that and expands on it.

Seeing that makes me feel really bad that I can't afford the greatest gaming rig in the world (or any gaming rig for that matter).

I got a dual core 3.2 cpu, 1GB gtx280GPU, and it ran wonderfully. Lowest was like 25 when it dipped just once, and average was 52-60fps. Everything was maxed on 1920x1200.

Damn that's awesome, this game uses the GPU to calculate the physics which is much more effiecent then using the CPU. I'm not sure about this but isn't it posible to deticate a GPU to calculate physics is an SLI configuration?

Yes it is. It dedicates one of the cards only to physics, and the other to everything else.

I finally got to play a good portion of this game on a friends comp, and I've got to say this game is a masterpiece, a breath of fresh air for FPS in my opinion, the way the story is told and the slower paced gameplay really add depth to the game. Rather then being thrown a ton of enemies at you its more close and personal with each enemy, and the writing for the story is brilliant, you really start to get involved in some of the drama that went on between some of the characters in the flash backs as well as the fable story that you pick up and read every so often. I really recommend this game for anyone who likes to play different from the norms style of games.
