I'm sure quite a few people agree that it was quite a pleasant surprise to see Crysis (an EA Partners game? right? well EA has their name on it anyway) available for digital distribution on steam.
Unfortunately, despite how delighted I always am to be able to purchase a game through steam, I was a little disappointed with the release of Crysis: Warhead. After scouring the install folder, I haven't been able to find a 'bin64' folder or a 64 bit exe that came with my copy of the original Crysis. As far as I can tell, the Steam version of Crysis: Warhead (I didn't purchase the original Crysis through Steam) does not come with a version optimized for 64 bit processors.
Has anyone bought the Steam copy and been able to run the 64 bit version of the game?
Has anyone bought a hard copy of Crysis from a store? Does it come with a 64 bit version?
I know that 64 bit Crysis is not compatable with Xfire, so I assume that it wouldn't be compatable with Steam as well. I can understand why they wouldn't have a launchable 64 bit version (if my assumptions are true) from the steam 'games' tab, but why exclude it entirely? Its like selling a copy of windows that only comes with the 32 bit version instead of 32 and 64.
So whats the big deal? Well, 64 bit crysis got shit-ton better framerates on my rig than 32 bit crysis did... so not having a version of Warhead optimized for a 64 bit proc is a bit of a bummer.
Despite my gripes with Steam's release of Warhead I really encourage everyone to purchase games through steam, as the digital distribution platform is an excellent alternative to piracy.
