Is crysis wars actaully any easier to run?
It does seem to run much more responsively on my system. On the flipside though, there seems to be _much_ more pop-up, in terms of detailed objects suddenly appearing around me. It's only noticable because the original Crysis was much more stable in that regard, but considering how much more responsive the game is, I think it's worth it. I find myself playing this game much more by the edge of my seat because it doesn't feel like the controls are lagging.
My pc is quite old now (Pentium 4 2.8ghz, ATI Radeon x1650, 2gb ram, Vista 32bit) and it could only run crysis on low and it looked really crap unless I turned the shaders on to medium and at that point the fps would drop to unplayable levels during combat. But on warhead I can run it with a couple of settings turned on to medium. It looks way better even though obviously not as good as if I had a proper pc, but still way better than Far Cry and actually better than some games on my 360. They definately tweaked the engine, I never finished the original due to performance issues (I only bought it because I intend to get a new pc next year) but I am going to play warhead since it's really fun and runs fine with nice visuals.
yea Steam is DRM. its the DRM that lets me download and install the copy of half life 2 i bought 4 years ago without having to do anything more than press the button that says "install game". Steam is perfect for pc gaming. i think publishers need to get their heads out of their asses and see that publishing games for windows ain't the way it used to be anymore. they all need to jump on the Steam bandwagon. i would love it if one day every boxed retail pc game you bought was a steam native game. it installs, is added to your steam account, and off you go.
