Polygons and pre-rendered video collide in this 1983 laserdisc game from Simutrek.

    Short summary describing this game.

Cube Quest is a "tube shooter" of sorts that uses a laserdisc to provide colorful backgrounds to what is otherwise a fairly plain-looking shooter. Players must traverse tubes (which represent lines on a polygonal cube) to reach an end point and collect treasure after completing a Star Castle-like battle. The game utilized a trackball for movement.

Portions of Cube Quest's vector-like gameplay were prototyped on the Vectrex. The gameplay in the prototype only superficially resembles the finished arcade product. This unfinished Vectrex code was eventually released in extremely limited quantities in 2002. Portions of the pre-rendered background art would later appear on VHS as a part of Beyond the Mind's Eye, the second in a series of video showcases for what was, at the time, state of the art computer animation.
