Extremely sad to see this happen to you Dan, hope everything is sorted out for you. :(

Edit: It seems some awesome duder(s) have set up an IndieGogo to help Dan get back on his feet. Have a look here if you want to help! Dan will donate any leftover money to Child's Play, the IndieGogo goal right now is $2,700 to buy everything back that was stolen.

Hopefully he has renter's insurance, if not I'm sure there are many duders who are willing to help him rebuild.

This might not be wanted or appropriate (mods please delete if you think it isn't) but would the giant bomb community be up for fundraising for some replacement gear for Dan? I'd pitch in a few dollars and if a load of us did it he'd be back to full console strength in no time...

Could this be delayed karma for Dan pissing all over his dad's DVDs?

    Really sucks though. Sorry Dan!

I've been robbed at gunpoint before and it's a really confidence-shaking experience. At least he's safe.

    That really, really sucks.

He has a roommate right? Depending on how well he knows the person sometimes it might be wary of those people who have easy access inside.

Wait his iphone being stolen wouldn't the police be able to track down the perps location?

My post was just a gut instinct thought process of "oh shit, that's the shittest... is there anything we can do as a community to make it less shit for the poor guy". But I take your point (hence the 'mods please delete' disclaimer if necessary).

How do you know he makes a considerable amount of money? I don't think he makes as much as you think he does, and not to mention, he lives in SAN FRANCISCO, one of the most expensive cities in the country. It's never easy to just go buy a bunch of stuff you spent years accumulating.

I would presume he is intelligent enough to have contents insurance. Even if he doesn't this has nothing to do with the community.

The real loss will be whatever he had stored on his PC and phone, not the machines themselves. Hardware can be replaced, memories cannot.

The stuff you can replace but the laptop and phone have tons of personal info not to mention the horrible feeling of unease of someone just breaking into your place.

Dan seems like a pretty easy going guy so hopefully he'll take it in stride. I'd probably freak out a bit.

While I feel sorry for Dan, raising money for an employed professional who probably gets a company laptop ( I think I remember Rorie talking about getting one) and could probably use an office console in the interim seems a little over the top. There are a lot more worthy causes to fundraise for.

It's not like people would be forced into it. I would gladly throw in a few bucks. Replacing three consoles and all those games is very expensive, and I doubt he is rolling in it after having to move to san fransisco. It would just be a nice thing to do, and those who wish to take part could take part.

Yeah. I've been robbed twice and in neither case was renter's insurance very helpful - in a lot of robbery cases you won't even end up hitting the deductible.

Hopefully Heidenryckert didn't lose too many things that were irreplaceable. You can always get a new XBox or whatever. I know the laptop has to be one of the shittiest things about this since there were probably files on there that he'd like to have back. I can definitely identify; it happened to me when I was in high school. Came home and didn't even notice at first...went into my room. "Who moved my CDs?" At this point I went into the main entryway and saw the TV gone.

Bizarre feeling, definitely a "didn't think this could actually happen" thing. Glad nothing worse happened than that. Every time I got pissed off about being robbed I think "at least they didn't wait for me and try to kill me, and at least they didn't burn the place down on the way out."

And not to be a dick, but can we please ease up on the race to be the first to put up a fundraiser or whatever RIGHT THIS SECOND? One, he may not need help, and two he may not want it. This is a personal issue he may not want others getting involved in. If the guy needs help I'm sure he knows people here have got his back and shouldn't hesitate to ask.

Sure, but that's a group that doesn't need to be crowdfunded unless his whole apartment exploded or something.

I mean you can cast your opinion on yes or no to a crowdfunding go ahead. However to start making assumptions and calling it fact that is wrong. Saying he makes a nebulous "Considerable Amount" is good enough reason to say no is a very bad argument as you can see from peoples complaints. This is also a man that has admitted to being thrifty and spending very little, maybe he has nice set of savings that due to conditioning he does not wish to spend until such unfortunate events that happen, is a better assumption but still not a better argument and still not right.

We are talking about $2,000 in replacement at least, maybe he has enough money for a $200 Sou Vide cooker on a whim, while he planned months ahead saving up and making deals with friends to keep the cost low in order to go to his Wrestling events? Maybe the Summerslam one was paid by CBSi as he did work and covered WWE 2k15?

You cannot comment on a person's life, lifestyle, income, outgoing or even health unless you know that person very very well and can get all the details of their expenses, EVEN THEN it is very very rude.

I myself would say lets not be rash about this it is a good hearted gesture, let us hear from Dan first his situation, then Jeff and ultimately CBSi Lawyers. THEN we can have the ethical or moral argument on should or should we not donate IF there is even there is an avenue to donate.

I hope Dan the best and may he recoup his losses either directly or be able to afford replacements or be able to covered by CBSi at the minimum to do his job well.

@splodge: Yeah, sure people can spend money on what they want. I guess I just wanted warn people that this might not be the best use of their money, not to get too morally relativistic about this, but there are people actively raising money for lifesaving medical care and thousands of charities who desperately need cash. But on the the other hand I can totally get why people would want to help such an entertaining guy out.

Man that sucks. As many have said, hopefully he has insurance to cover most/all of this. Although Dan seems like the kinda guy who might pass on that sort of thing.

As for all of the "Lets chip in and help him!" stuff, I think that needs to but left alone at the very least for the moment. Dan's an adult, with a career that affords him to live in a very expensive city and buy the things he buys. I'm sure he can take care of himself. He's a big boy, and we don't even know if the guy's got it taken care of already (insurance or what have you). So lets leave that stuff to when it might be more appropriate. Yes it's a lot of money but that's what savings are for. We aren't talking about 10's of thousands here, maybe $3000. That's a lot of money but the guy is clearly doing okay and I'm sure he can afford to replace his items in an appropriate and reasonable amount of time on his own. I just feel it's a little weird to jump to that. Show sympathy and support, but there is no need to start a fundraiser for a guy to get some of his video games back.

More than anything, it's the loss of data and sense of safety and security is the biggest loss. That's really shitty to go through, especially in a new town. Hopefully it doesn't rattle the guy too much! He seems sort of fearless (or at least carefree) so hopefully he'll weather the non-financial elements well.

I guess I just wanted warn people that this might not be the best use of their money, not to get too morally relativistic about this, but there are people actively raising money for lifesaving medical care and thousands of charities who desperately need cash. But on the the other hand I can totally get why people would want to help such an entertaining guy out.

As I said, it's just a nice thing to do. It's not taking money away from other charities. 5 bucks I would normally spend on a cheeseburger or coffee I can sling Dan's way. It's not a big deal.

And here we are, buying subscriptions to a website so we can see more content about video games. It's all about where the individual wants to spend their money duder. Nothing we do is going to be the best use of our money. Do what you want with your money and what makes you feel good about yourself. I donate to various charities, but I also drop stupid amounts of money on absolute bullshit like a near useless oculus rift. Even if I didn't donate to ANY charities, I'd still feel fine about buying stupid crap.

I bet it was that low down, dirty, no good, snake in the grass, Stone Cold! That's why he was trying to convince Dan to stock his place with a selection of fine liquors!

In all seriousness I just hope he didn't lose anything special and/or irreplaceable.

I think Dan's good on the video game standpoint since I'm sure he could probably borrow the offices ps4 / xbox one / Wii U for work. It just sucks cause I'm probably sure there's stuff with personal meaning to him on maybe his laptop or iphone that he can't get back. Plus whoever stole his shit is preventing Dan from streaming with his sister at his home!

I can't even imagine how that must feel. The fact someone came into the place you live and took your things... regardless of what they took, is beyond despicable. I hope life has a shit sandwich in store for whoever did this.
