Dante's Inferno's Super Bowl Ad
That trailer is pretty bad. It really doesn't let you know anything about the game except that it is set in hell. And the song really isn't appropriate for the type of commercial it is. It has nothing to do with the game, and having a modern cover of a Harlem song in a game set in a Medieval Time in a Biblical setting simply isn't a wise choice.
Also, on a side note, notice how Beatrice has her clothes on.
Awesome trailer with the only flaw being the stupid tagline at the end. I know people were giving the marketing for this game a hard time a few months ago, but right now they look like masters of the craft in comparison to the guys working on BioShock 2 ads.
Yeah, I'm gonna have to disagree with the song being inappropriate. Hardcore metal music or a chorus would be so much more cliche. Also, I remember a few people making a similar complaint about a little game you might remember..." That trailer is pretty bad. The music in the Dante's Inferno ad was kinda out of place with that amount of action. It doesn't fit the feel of the ad the same way the Gears one did.
Awful, awful ad. Unlike the Gears of War ad, where the music is used to accent the work which the Epic guys did in making a statement about the game using the game's engine and artwork, the EA marketing team have selected a song which while melancholy is just the wrong fit for the ad and to add insult to injury they're not showing stuff that the game actually looks like but rather prerendered artwork instead.
I'm interested in how trailers are made (much less interested in this game, FYI) so I'd like to see exactly what's wrong with it.
1. The music doesn't fit.
My point about Gears of War was that Epic could have totally gone the Disturbed route with their trailer and no one would have questioned it. We just accept "Mad World" as accenting the trailer in 2010 because that song and that trailer have left a legacy as large as the game itself. If you were to watch the above video on mute, you'll see that they actually had quite a few musical directions to pick from. Like I said, it could have just been heavy metal, or if they wanted a light hearted trailer, "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head." I get that it's not easy to think about it that way though.
Now this Dante's Inferno trailer obviously isn't on that level, but I love the fact that it's unique. Do we really need another montage set to "Requiem for a Dream?" No, and that's why it has a chance at being remembered. Songs that don't really fit aren't completely unheard of though. One of my favorites is from years ago, and it pulls off the irony pretty well.
2. Doesn't show gameplay
I would have preferred gameplay at the end rather than the tagline. This is legitimate.
3. Beatrice has clothes on
Agreed, this sucks.
Well, they definitely seemed to be aiming for something that better suited a Super Bowl ad rather than something which gave an accurate impression of the game. The characters (particularly Beatrice) came across as just a tad too cartoony and is the music supposed to be ironic? Because it just feels completely misplaced, it ruins the trailer.
I think it is great for what it is. People are complaining about no gameplay, I don't think that is what this is for. I think it is entertaining and stylish, it gets my attention and if I didn't already know about this game I'd be interested to learn more; marketing department mission acomplished.
Should they have used this instead?" That trailer is pretty bad. It really doesn't let you know anything about the game except that it is set in hell. " That trailer is the only thing about this game that has appealed to me so far. "This guy speaks truth. Partly because I part made that avatar, and partly because he speaks truth.
And the whole point of the song really is that it doesn't fit. It's almost ironic.

Wow, I randomly ran into this topic and have to say it was the most pointless topic I have read. Once seeing this I needed to sign up immediately and correct all of you guys.
I have no idea if you guys have played the demo yet, if you haven't, it is on the ps network or xbox network for download.
Now to the topic:
I believe this trailer is perfect. The lyrics fit perfectly with what is going on in the trailer/story line. Obviously we all know what the game is about, I hope you guys do, so why are you complaining about it. I personally see heavy metal or hard rock kind of destroying its rep.
Every time the trailer is on TV, i turn my head and watch it. I have probably seen this trailer over 100 times and still enjoy it. Each time I see it, it makes me want to go buy it.
I LOVE the trailer. I'm sure that trailer will win many, many awards. But what do I know...I only have a master's in MKT

From what I can recall in the poem, Dante doesn't murder Death and then steal his scythe and slay demons with it.
Anyway, was anybody surprised they changed the tagline from "Go to Hell" to "Hell Awaits"? I think the change was for the better. Made it less cliche and I didn't feel insulted...

It's a crazy, must own game. I hope this further helps you guys with the trailer and the song (which its lyrics is perfect for what happens in the game). Every time she is there its safe, but when she disappears all hell breaks loose.
" @Fr0Br0 said:Good summary of the first few minutes. But I don't know if you know this, the game is based on an old poem. None of this shit happened in the poem. People who expect the game to be like the poem are in for a surprise because THEY don't know this game is just a generic action game set in hell." @singalongjonl said:Does the "actually we don't" refer to not knowing what the game is about. "We first meet the main character when he is fighting a bunch of people during some sort of war (I can't remember the exact details because I played the demo a few months ago). After succeeding killing all the attackers, he run around the side of the building. Only to be attacked by a sneaking foe who stabs him in the back. He then see's Death that says he is going to take him to hell. He then defeats Death in a cool battle that you get to play and kill him with his own scythe. End of Part I. Next thing we see is him arriving home to find it destroyed and his wife murdered. Her spirit is raised and she talks to him. A demon then grabs her and pulls her into the forest, immediately after a bunch of demons come out of the ground and he fights them all (which you play) with your scythe. You then go into the woods and end up at a church and finds her body on an alter. You walk up to her and the church breaks down and a hole is formed which engulfs her body, he follows by going down the hole (not like in the trailer though), he uses steps down. Next thing you know your in hell and are fighting constant demons and bosses.
