Poll Is simply more Dark Souls enough? (254 votes)
So I just watched some gameplay for Dark Souls 3 ( on YouTube ) and it got me thinking. I've been a fan of the series since Demon's Souls and have been progressively losing interest along the way. I didn't really enjoy Dark Souls all that much, heresy I know, and while I thought that DS2 improved on a lot of systems I was already feeling slightly burnt out playing through it. Bloodborne managed to re-invigorate my interest in the series because of the complete aesthetic overhaul. The changes to gameplay while not dramatic, were significant enough where I did feel like this series was moving forward, or in a new direction at least.
Then I watched the Dark Souls 3 video and came away from it vaguely disappointed. I don't know what I expected from footage of a game that has the number 3 tacked on at the end, but I guess I expected something with a little more than a fresh coat of paint. Dark Souls 3 from the limited off-screen glimpse we get looks a lot like the previous games. In a way this is good, because why shouldn't more of what we all initially fell in love with be a bad thing? But at the same time.. we don't want to remember everything. I want something different. I want changes, but not just any ol' changes, I want dramatic changes. I want to be lost again. I guess what I really want is another Bloodborne-styled offshoot. Familiar mechanics, but different universe, different rules, different everything.
I'll buy and play Dark Souls 3 but I'm not the least bit excited by it.
Is more of the same enough for you?
