    is there a way to teleport to a bonfire or do you have to traverse the map in real time to get to a different area? thanks.

    There are items that let you teleport to the last bonfire you visited.

    Much later in the game, after Anor Londo, you are given the ability to warp between a small selection of bonfires, from any bonfire.
