I can hardly wait for this. I've been playing this game again since a week ago and totally hooked all over, up to 150 hours of playtime now and 2 characters in NG+.

A DLC expansion for From Software's brutal-but-brilliant action RPG Dark Souls is on its way, according to EGM.
Citing sources close to the project, its report insisted that the new content is in the final stages of development and will launch some time before the end of March.
No details on exactly what form the add-on will take were offered.
However, EGM also mentioned that From filed a trademark in Japan for something called Forest of Darkness late last year. Could that be the pack's title?
We've asked publisher Namco to shed a little more light and will update should we hear back.

Cool beans, but at second thought I'd really rather have them work on Doomed Souls than to get an extra area. How would I even play it? Go back with a high level character? Start a new game? I guess that's a problem with any DLC really.

Except those lazy scumbags over at IGN actually used this argument before Skyrim came out in one of their half-assed attempts at getting attention. "Top Ten Reason Why Dark Souls Will Be Better Than Skyrim!" Seriously, it's like they hire fourteen year olds from their own forums.

My bet is it's the 3rd Souls Game, or second Dark Game or whatever. I don't see where they could even cram DLC into Dark Souls.

I'll be happy either and they will get my money, but I have my doubts about it being DLC.

Hmm... how would a single stage added to the game after the fact hold up? If I blew through it in about 30minutes to an 1h30m like a good number of stages in Dark Soul's but not have anything else to do after that, I'd be pretty bummed.
 
I'll remain cautiously optimistic but bite size pieces of Dark Soul's isn't really what I want. They will get my money either way. If it is a 30 minute stage or a long multistage pack, they will get my money. They deserve it for making one of the best games of last year.

This better not add achievements. Going to be rather pissed if I lose my S rank since I traded the game in as soon as I got it.

I understand what you are saying. I bet it's not a very big DLC pack, but indeed a new area and a couple of additions like a set of armor, a weapon and maybe a new upgrade path for your weapon (not really into the lore so I don't know if something prevents that from happening). Either way, I will devour every bit of new content they will throw my way, and the original game was astonishing value for money and I want to support them for that.

They can easily make it so the giant bird flies you to a new area with its own story. That will also make it easy for compatibility between people who do and don't have the dlc.

I'm excited for this, but I don't really see how they're going to do this. Unless it's just completely separate from the main game.

I am thinking it will be handled like the painted world, get some obscure item and be able to reach a new area.

Ya that would work well to. I wonder if they would have a compatibility pack so they could add new weapons and armour. New covenants that worked like warring factions would be cool as well. So many possibilities with this game.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I don't want any Dark Souls DLC. I feel like this game was about as close to perfect as you can reasonably achieve, and the idea of tacking something else on just makes uncomfortable.

Would it even launch day and date in the West, or is it coming to Japan first? I'd imagine they need some time to localize it here.

EDIT: If it is true, I'd love to see some of the covenant stuff expanded upon. Give me ways to level up in Way of the White or Princess Guard, for example. Maybe pick up on some story threads that seemingly got dropped.

EDIT EDIT: Only way to access the DLC is by using the pendant. THEY PLANNED IT ALL ALONG.

That's weird. I bought the collector's edition and I could've sworn that the developers stated they were not interested in doing DLC, but maybe I am just remembering it wrong. Nonetheless, very excited for more Dark Souls!

I'm fine with whatever they do but I would prefer a whole new game. At this point fixing the covenant stuff won't make much of a difference because people would get bored too quickly if its onya new area or 2.

Still waiting for a 360 Demon's Souls port....

They should make it so that the first time you load a character after the DLC is installed the message "DLC successfully intergrated" flashes on the screen for a few moments, and then they don't actually tell you where the new area is.

This is great news. As much fun as it is to play NG++++ and starting new characters, there's a certain point where that will get dull. Glad that there will be new content on the way. I wouldn't mind new achievements either since I S-ranked the game pretty early on.

How will this work though? Won't this severely limit the amount of players you are able to play with?

They're just going to tell us that there's DLC, sell it to us, then laugh at us as we try to find something that's not there.

Forest of Darkness, huh? This would actually make sense if they expanded it using content they decided to cut. See here:

From the /r/DarkSouls subreddit (it's the only part of Reddit worth visiting, so go there):

"Here's a quote that was posted which might explain what the upcoming dlc will include. Note, i don't think it's referring to the dlc specifically, just something that was cut.

There was one major side quest that was cut from the game. In the Darkroot Basin, you were suppose to be able to go on a mission in order to save the Dusk of Oolacille. In this mission, you were summoned into the past, where the buildings of the Darkroot Basin were still intact. The side quest and optional area were cut because it was considered too difficult to execute.source

It's a possibility considering the "Dark Forest" patent."

As someone who owns, and played, all of Demon's Souls I would also pay good money to be able to replay those levels with any of my Dark Souls characters.
