The Greatest Game of All Time
I have played a great deal of games and nothing will ever touch Darkest of Days, and one day into the future the world will recognize this piece of Interactive Art as well ahead of its time.
As an art student, I have found that the metaphysical and symbolist merits of this Interactive Art, show it to be one of the very few in existence that could be measured purely on its artistic integrity and how it tackles subjects like faith, time, transcendence, and art itself in such a subtitle way as to become ahead of its time, and will be just as misunderstood as Jasper Johns, Caravaggio, or even perhaps Rembrandt. Take this for what it is, but I feel that the game itself and it's design has been made deliberate.
I rated this game as a perfect score. This game is perfect in every way.. in that each and every moment I notice new things regarding dual themes concerning identity verses existentialism, and also feelings of Marxist beliefs being redefined almost at the same time, perhaps like a Marxist-prism (I seriously can't think of a better word for it). And I wouldn't be surprised to see a Game of the Year edition, to a game, that continues to fight in the public arena on the grounds of "Games being Art".
One day, people will begin to see that a game doesn't have to be portentous in it's design, for it to be considered Art. And I personally feel that the opposite is true. In fact, people need to realize that game play mechanics themselves, can also be a topic for artistic expression. But, to make it an issue, tampering this high-standard that people have, it will piss them off, like all great art does. The same holds true with a "shooter" genre game, that that perhaps has very little actual shooting in it. Who ever heard of a minimalist shooter?
