Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Fortune for PlayStation 4 contains support for Sony's PlayStation VR headset. The PlayStation Vita version of the game is known as Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Venus. The game is not planned for release outside of Japan, but Koei Tecmo has stated that if it ever was released in other regions, then it would have to be "adjusted" for those regions.
The nine playable characters in the game were selected based on the total PlayStation Store purchases of dashboard themes from Dead or Alive 5 Last Round between August 20 and September 7, 2015. Only purchases from Japan counted towards the results and the final roster was announced during the 2015 Tokyo Game Show. The top nine include:
As the most popular character, Marie Rose has a "devil" costume available for those who purchase the PS4 version of the game at launch. An "angel" costume for Honoka (2nd place) is included with the launch day PS Vita version.
Notably, characters such as Tina Armstrong and Lei Fang, who have been in every Dead or Alive game since the beginning, did not make the cut. Koei Tecmo claims there are no plans to add characters via DLC. Those not making the cut include:
In November 2018, Koei Tecmo announced a third version of the game known as "Scarlet" to be released on PS4 and Switch in March 2019. This version includes two additional characters including Misaki, who first appeared in Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation, and Lei Fang, the character who had the most votes that didn't make the cut in the original version.
