Dead Seater is an indie, action-adventure survival horror developed and published digitally by Zeekerss for PC, released on April 2, 2021, developed in the Unity game engine.
It is presented as a short, cryptic horror story with a retro aesthetic and gameplay inspired by similar horror titles with fixed camera angles. Players control Jesse Vincent, a young man with a vague background and motive, who sparsely narrates a backstory as the player progresses by unlocking doors in Jesse's home.
Gameplay
Dead Seater is presented in a small aspect ratio, a pixelation filter, and mono audio which deliberately serves to obscure the source of sounds which may endanger the player. It also features an abnormal control scheme which allows the player to turn Jesse's head by moving the mouse rather than by pressing buttons.
Jesse has no means of defense and must run or avoid alerting monsters in the first place. In the latter half of the game, Jesse Vincent can use a headlamp to see; before this, the player is forced to flick light switches or navigate through the dark. The player can find a map of the house but not the basement.
Enemies
There are two monster types which pursue the player throughout Dead Seater. Both the enemies' full names are never directly revealed to the player but are hinted through Jesse's narration.
- The DSP. The DSP uses the element of surprise, attacking the player at random, usually by bursting through doors. It turns off lights and double-backs to catch the player. As the player progresses, the DSP becomes faster and less predictable.
- The MB's. The MB's use the dark to hide around the house, only attacking the player when exposed to light. They are faster than the player but are burdened by their weight, smashing into walls and accelerating slowly. MB's may appear in large numbers; if one is triggered, they will all swarm the player.
