Banned in Japan, Germany, and China!
This is shacknews quoting destructoid quoting Andrew Green, community manager of Dead Space. And he got his facts wrong. EA has already denied this.
Gah. Furthermore, there is no banning of games in Germany. Jesus Christ. Some games are not released because they would get too high a rating to be commercially successfull. This is a choice of the publisher, not of the government. The german government has officially recognized video games as objects of cultural value, and just recently reinforced the statement that violent games will not be forbidden. Even if a publisher decides to not release an official german version, most retail stores store and sell the austrian german version, which is legal. German government neither censors nor bans games or movies. All they do is make sure that violent games are not sold or advertised to minors. And because of that, some games won't get published. By the publisher. Because they fear for their income.
I imagine it's the same with Japan: The publisher deciding not to spend money in advertising and publishing because they fear a strict rating and low sales. NOT a government telling companies what they can release and what they can't!
China may be a different story, though.
"Why does it make you so angry if it doesn't affect you?"
Its called consideration, why should I care if some dies if I dont know them? ok that example might be a little over the top but its still the same thing in a way.
I live in australia and I know first hand what its like to live in a country where censorship is over the top. I am not a suporter of censor ship but i still think we need a rating system. What give me the shits is that an 18+ yr old can go to the movies and watch a movie full of gore, sex and drugs but the monement someone wants to make a game with those in it, the gets banned. Games creators should have the freedom to make a game with what ever they want in it. (not everything of course but almost anything)
Dead Space is a great game, it makes me laugh, but for some reason, it doesn't frighten me. I can still go to sleep at night, I can still walk around in the dark... in fact I play this game at night and turn of the lights trying my best to spook myself... but it doesn't work. I just laugh at the game. I think it's hilarious. I mean, there are times when the game surprises me, but that's about it.
"Why does it make you so angry if it doesn't affect you?"People being denied good games?
"Um, the German government has banned many games for depicting violence against other human beings before...but it's good to know that the German government wasn't involved this time...This is shacknews quoting destructoid quoting Andrew Green, community manager of Dead Space.
