I appreciate that the Endurance Run is something which, conceptually, is designed to be endured.

    It's supposed to be difficult.

It's a challenge and a commitment as much to watch as it must be to play. Especially when that game is, by all accounts, fucking shit bananas.

I'm impressed and pleased by the decision to begin a new series of the Endurance Run. Watching the giantbomb staff goofing around is outlandishly enjoyable. I understand the concept of deliberately picking a terrible game to play through and I appreciate that it may be ripe for comedy. But really, Deadly Premonition? After about 10 hours of laughing at how absurd this game is, the joke starts to wear thin. My own feelings of fatigue and lack of patience can be seen shadowed in the players. This game is clearly taking it's toll on all parties involved. I could have watched a quick-look of Deadly Premonition and got my fill of goofy "Look at the terrible animation!" jokes. I like Jeff and Vinny but i'm not going to watch them trudge round the lumber mill ever again.

Quite simply the game has no charm or sense of humour of it's own to compliment that of the narration. We as the audience rely almost completely on the feedback we receive from the players and they are quite obviously fatigued and bored of the game they are playing. An Endurance Run works best when the game is full of conversation pieces, not long empty roads and badly textured hallways like Deadly Premonition. It also works when the story has a form of progression to which some form of rationality can be applied. Deadly Premonition, so far, has failed to demonstrate this. It's almost.... too bad?

I appreciate there is honour and integrity at stake.

I understand that a commitment has been made to play this game from start to finish. But please, for the love of god, end this now. There is no shame in quitting this abortion of a videogame.

Please, Giantbomb. You need to stop playing so that I can stop watching.

Not sure what rose tinted glasses you're looking through where half of the Persona 4 ER wasn't a fucking grind, but its intrinsic to the task they undertook. They can continue not giving up while you learn how to control yourself.

Ha! Ok to be fair Persona had a fair amount of grindyness in it, but at least the contrast was lots of bright interesting characters and quests.

I'm not expecting them to stop. I just want everyone to know the pain I experience as I continue to watch :(

Well, I can see where the OP is coming from, the battles in P4 were fun to watch thanks to the stylistic artstyle and always had the guys (poorly)strategizing which was pretty entertaining. DP on the other hand has been mostly watching them mindlessly shoot zombies in thier face for 40 seconds.

Though as someone who has played the game: Stick with it. The story gets REALLY crazy later and and its totally worth trudging through the gameplay in order to see it. If you think what we've seen so far is strange.......You'll see. Besides, the lumber mill was the longest(though not hardest) ''dungeon'' . Now that the guys can explore the world, we'll see a lot of cool  NPC interaction and weird sidequests if they decide to bother with it.

    And it seems they are!

I'm really enjoying this new Endurance Run they do, not to mention we get it with two different perspectives.

Though I think all of us would love to see a next-gen release of Persona 5, and an Endurance Run to go with it!

Nah.  there will definitely be a P5, its pretty much Atlus's flagship title.

I just highly doubt they'll do an endurance run on it:(

I'm sorry you dont like the game, but I love it. I dont find it "terrible" as most who dont like this kind of game have been saying.

There is alot to talk about, but I'll admit at the beginning of the game its very slow paced. It gets better as the game progresses, and gets more weird as well as explaining stuff more and more. The problem with the ER is only when they rush through some stuff.

It will be easier for them to explore more once they've met everyone in town (when it comes to Vinny and Jeffs Game) and when it comes to Brad and Ryan- I dont know about them, they get stuck on stuff I dont understand how (like the flies haha). My only problem with Brad and Ryans play is they dont explore enough which hinders their ability to find more side quests and such (they should be past that now though as in their game the world is pretty open). It can be said, however, this is the fault of the game as most stuff is inaccessable alot of the time and its hard to determine what you can do to fill time at certain points in the game.

I dont think you'll ever like this game, so I think you should stop watching it. This is obviously not the game for you. Me, i'm playing along and having a blast. I'm well ahead of the giant bomb staff and all I can say is it gets really weird. Unfortunately not everyone appreciates games if the graphics are poor, animation is amatuer, and the idea is absurd. That doesnt mean your wrong, everyone's opinoin is valid, but I disagree with it. I love this game, and I will continue to watch both playthroughs of it.

You obviously dont like it, so you should probably watch something else.

I dunno. They latest episodes were pretty fucking bananas, in a good way. Thomas dancing sensually to jazz records in the privacy of his own home or Diane offering to sleep with Agent York for no apparent reason. If you can't stop watching it, there's clearly something about it that you enjoy.

Haha, I see your point, but I think poor Jeff and Vinny would be pretty much forced into making an Endurance Run of it. Hell, the Endurance Run of P4 was extremely popular, and they're well aware of that. Time will tell I guess, and let's just hope for the best!

I don't know, man. I've pretty much stopped watching the ER all together because I just don't find the game that interesting. This "team" business is all fine and good, but I guess I missed the hook. Ten or eleven episodes in and I'm basically forcing myself to keep up with the Endurance Run.

Really? Me too! Oh, then you should go to Rising Star boards ( http://www.risingstargames.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=62&start=290 ) and post there asking for a release, we need a UK release for Deadly Premonition!

I love Deadly Premonitions, but I understand why many people don't like it. To properly enjoy it you have to ignore many of the games flaws, and some people can't do that. I only wish that people would give it a chance before completely writing it off.

It's called an ENDURANCE RUN, you ninny.   You have to endure with them through the whole game.  Wait no, scratch that, you don't have to watch them if you are whining so much.  The Endurance Run should not be all laughs to entertain you.

To be honest, I was never really bothered by DP's combat.  It's not great, but you get a decent variety of weapons to screw around with, as long as you aren't too stingy with your supplies, which there's no reason to be, you shouldn't have to rely on the crappy pistol too much.    The rest of the game more than makes up for any mediocrity in the combat.  I was much more bored when I tried to play No More Heroes 2, and 75% of the enemies were big fat guys with huge amounts of health  that you have to stand and watch as they follow through with a 10 second uninterruptable combo every 3 hits you land on them.

I have not even played this game, but after watching about 30 minutes of the endurance run episode, i felt that i should never try it. Ever.

I agree. The Endurance Run is slowly turning into those last few seasons of Whose Line when everyone was just bitter and angry. Not only does this mean that this ER is shitty, but that we'll probably see an even longer period between this ER and the next than we did with the first one. I'm not even going to read over that to make sure it made sense.

Did you watch the recent VJ Endurance Run where Thomas danced? That was the best thing ever.

At first I hated the game, but it's slowly growing on me. I'm actually interested to see York solve this case.

P4 had a lot of interesting social links that made things interesting, and worked especially well for the ER. To this point DP is moving at a snails pace. Neither the game, or our GB players are solely to blame. The problem is having this sandbox game with nothing really going on thus far. It seems it's been raining just about every episode, which basically means everything is closed. This leaves us with the guys trying to find stuff to do, when there really isn't anything to do.  The driving in the game is difficult to tolerate, especially when the guys have to blare the car's sirens to get a decent speed. I find myself skipping forward during the driving portions, which is a shame as they seem to contain a bulk of the play time to this point.

The other thing going against DP is me getting the impression that Jeff is really starting to get agitated by this game, and who can blame him? DP hasn't been an easy game to watch. Brad has been vocal about his distaste for this game since episode 1. Ryan seems to dig it, and Vinny seems to be cool, but when the other half don't seem to be having a very good time, it has negative effects on the entertainment value of the ER. Of course this could be only temporary, until the game, and our GB players hit their stride. I'm hoping this happens sooner than later, as up to this point the ER hasn't been easy to watch. Let's be honest, most of us are content just listening to the Giant Bomb crew talk, regardless what is going on on the screen.

To be honest though, Vinny and Jeff aren't even through the first chapter yet, and I think Brad and Ryan JUST finished the first chapter. It's taken a long ass time because I think Vinny/Brad aren't seasoned horror game players. They should really be running past like 50% of the enemies they see, like most old horror games. More on that point, they need to stop being so damn stingy with their disposable weapons. Their's no reason to save the shitty melee weapons like the steel pipe, knife, and bar. They will be getting much better stuff very soon, like the swords, shovels, shotguns, infinite ammo SMG etc. Even more so, even the basic zombies get a shit ton stronger as the game goes on, so those weapons will be even more useless as time goes on.

All of that has combined for a really slow start to the ER if you ask me. IMO the game picks up right about 1/3 in to the 2nd chapter, and really starts to get awesome during the beginning of the 3rd chapter. If the ER is still boring to Jeff/Brad or the people watching after they get to that point, the game probably just isn't for you. I really don't blame them though, it takes a while to learn how to efficiently play most games, and to people who have already learned this stuff, it makes them look silly sometimes.

i actually do agree with you too. the magic is totally lost.

well, yes, i LOOOOOOVE them balls (and chie)
the thing about persona 4 was that it was light hearted and it's could definitely stand alone as a simple no-commentary playthrough video. it's just like watching a high-school drama. DP has no likable characters to start with, don't even mention what a fucking bore it is to play and watch. the mill makes the dungeon grinding in P4 seem like roller coaster ride in comparison. the new ER just kinda sucks, really.
