than I did with Gears of War, Fallout 3, Fable 2, Alan Wake, Resident Evil 5, and Dead Space 2. Just sayin'.
Deadly Premonition
Game » consists of 11 releases. Released Feb 23, 2010
An open-world action-adventure game following an eccentric FBI agent as he investigates a series of bizarre murders in the small rural town of Greenvale.
I had more fun playing this...
Same here - though all the games on that particular list besides Fable are games I either don't like or have no interest in playing. That said, Deadly Premonition was one of my favorite games of 2010 hands down.
Deadly Premonition is the game of the year every year, it is a study in perfection nobody could ever possibly hope to recreate.
@JoeyRavn: It might be worth it to say I had the PS3 version of Fallout 3 which is apparently ultra buggy.

My thoughts exactly, but I bet if you played it by yourself it would not be nearly as fun.
I played it by myself, having never watched the endurance run and it was really really good. The story is just great, and all the characters are just fun to be around.

So now what do we do?

I tried it myself and had a blast. I feel the horrible controls made it better. Probably the only game I'd ever say that about.

There again proves a point, the game is unplayable after the endurance run.

You can do what you want. I'll be over here feeling sorry for you.

You don't wanna get mixed up with a guy like me. I'm a loner, AlisterCat. A rebel.

And I you :)
I enjoyed Deadly Premonition a lot, but I also enjoyed those other games. Except for Fable 2 and Alan Wake. I don't really care for the Fable games in general, and I thought Alan Wake had a mediocre story and was straight-up boring to shoot dudes in.
And I guess Fallout 3, but that isn't really for me anyways. Don't really like FPS or the Bethesda style open world wander around and find your own fun mentality. Though at least the combat was less garbage then it's Elder Scrolls brothers.

This. I got more enjoyment out of the dying moans of the zombies than I did the entire second half of Alan Wake.
Honestly I don't understand the love for DP, the Endurance Runs were hilarious, the story and characters are fucking great and the game itself is crazy
But the game plays like a piece of shit, it's so clunky and uncomfortable and it looks horrible, thought it was a PS2 game when I first saw it on the ER
I just don't understand people who love it for anything except it's story, great game to watch, shitty game to play
My heart skipped a beat when news hit the other day that they were well into production of Deadly Premonition 2. Sadly the news turned out to just be a PS3 release of the first game (yay for PS3 owners of course).
My only complaints regarding the game is the awful, awful combat, and also playing through the game three times for the S-Rank was less than ideal. Still, a damn good game for its price-tag.

It does play like shit, but in the most awesome way ever! Whether they intended to or not, they managed to replicate the off-kilter insanity of the story with the gameplay itself. Main character openly talks to an imaginary friend in public which nobody questions = open world game where all the cars max out at 55 mph.
There's definitely nothing else out there like it... Actually played through it like 3 times to get all the achievements. (I still have my copy, because it would upset York if I got rid of it)
I really liked the game but it isn't as good as Fallout 3 or Dead Space 2 and that has been proven by scientific research so your opinion is wrong. I would say that I liked it more than Alan Wake and maybe a very little more than Fable 2 and Resident Evil 5 and I liked those games as well.

I wish I could agree with you but Fallout 3 is so buggy its hard to play and Dead Space 2 is boring and derivative with a dumb story.
It should be noted though the PS3 port coming out in English speaking places is an enhanced version. Already said there will be some UI, graphic, and control changes along with some new story sidequests or something along those lines. I've held off on buying a copy for myself to see the UI/control changes in this enhanced version. My heart skipped a beat when news hit the other day that they were well into production of Deadly Premonition 2. This is pretty much how I feel, as well.
It's almost like DP is the video game equivalent of Napoleon Dynamite. Awkward comedy isn't funny, it's just awkward. Same goes for DP; shitty gameplay and cheap production values don't make it a better experience, they make it shitty and cheap. The quirkyness of the characters and game as a whole make it a little entertaining, but I can't even begin to understand how someone could play through it by themselves without something like the ER and honestly enjoy it.
It's like scream-o music for me; I have no basis to even try to understand how someone could like it (playing it, not the story/characters). I have nothing against someone who does, but trying to get me to understand why someone would enjoy it would be like trying to get someone who exists in 3 dimensions to understand the 4th dimension.

I'm pretty much in this boat as well.
Shitty gameplay does not make the game more endearing to me, it makes the game more shitty. No offense to the people who love playing it, I'll just never understand it myself.

My brain can't comprehend someone saying that and then loving Deadly Premonition. Deadly Premonition is the definition of "hard to play." I can understand why people like and enjoy the game, but the game play is a train wreck.
It should be worth noting that this was a budget game designed with the intention to be released on the PS2. They decided it resembled "Twin Peaks" a bit too much, so they changed certain aspects of the game causing it to be constantly delayed. The game isn't frustratingly bad, it's cheesy bad. It's just a budget version of "Resident Evil 4" combat. The only thing that could be considered frustrating about the game is the map because it doesn't zoom out far enough.
And I like that everything about the game is terrible (in the best way possible). The game is beautifully demented and you can tell SWERY had a great time making it. You manage to love the characters and the game world, despite it being totally fucked up and terrible.
Anyways, I can go on for hours describing why I love "Deadly Premonition". Point is is that it's an acquired taste, but I would recommend everyone to try it. It's not like it's a $60 game or anything.

This is what I wonder when people espouse their love for this game. Do you actually like it or is it one of those "so bad it's good" deals?

The difference is Deadly Premonition is so easy its flaws don't get in the way. If I had a dime for every time I had to do a hard reset on my PS3 playing Fallout 3 I'd have gotten a refund. Not that I dislike Fallout 3, but it was a very frustrating experience.

Exactly. It's bad but its never frustrating so its hard to hold its flaws against it.

For me the flaws in Deadly Premonition definitely get in the way of having any sort of fun while playing the game, whether it's easy or not. Sucks that you had such a crappy experience with Fallout 3, I never ran into any major problems with it that I can remember.
