I love it! I was worried this game would bomb because of some of the big websites unfair reviews. The reader reviews are pretty much consistently positive but not many people pay attention to those. I have made several topics at Gametrailers about this game and have got quite a few people to buy it but this takes the cake! At first I think I was liking the Vinny Episodes more because they didn't seem to bothered by the games limitations  and in the beginning brad was complaining a bit to much, but now the Brad and Ryan episodes are defiantly the better ones.  They have clearly warmed up to the game and their commentary is truly hilarious.  Ryan yelling out the commands in the chance sequence was great and I don't think I have ever laughed so much at a video when Brad was freaking out about the" bees" Lol. When ever he said "I think they are coming with" when they were going out side of the hotel i was laughing pretty hard. But the best part was when they finally found out how to bust through doors, you could see the light bulb go off Lol. Lately it seems the Vinny team is losing interest and I'm finding it harder to watch there episodes.

I really hope some of you fellow Giant Bomb enthusiasts do go out and buy this underrated, critically abused, oddly nostalgic and hilarious game. It deserves the sales and I guarantee you will have a blast playing it if you can look past it's shot comings! This game is defiantly a breath of fresh air in this age of HD gaming and hope to see more like it.

You seem to be confused: Any entertainment the Bomb Squad are getting out of their Endurance Run is derived from the fact that the game is terrible, not from any genuine enjoyment of Deadly Premonition.

If the Endurance Run is helping people buy the game, it's for the same reason that people seek out the E.T. game that people blame for the video game crash of '83: its profoundly low quality makes it a conversation piece.

It's not a good game. Just because 4 people decided to record themselves playing it, doesn't mean it's quality.

I am incredibly interested in this game. Normally, I would write it off, but I really want to get my hands on it and give it a go on my own. Sure, the graphics are mid PS2-era at best, but I am really getting into the story. The quick time events are kinda cool too... in their own way.

I'm not confused at all, there are a lot of people that genuinely love this game despite its low production values because of its characters and story. Imo this game isn't terrible at all, it may be frustrating at times but honestly it is the best title I have played all year(and i have bought all of the big budget games that have come out this year). I can tell in the BR videos they seem to be warming up to the game(Ryan even bought it), even though they may never like the game as much as I do, they still see its charm and are pulled in by the story and making theories of what might happen. After playing this I really think it is safe to say the Rain Coat Killer >>>>Origami Killer. The story(believe it or not) actually makes more sense and is way more enjoyable. In the end all of the answers are answered. There is one plot hole I can think of though, but there might be an explanation I missed, the game IS big.

People have there opinions I wont argue with that but that is not why I think this game is amazing, I think it is amazing because I have never played anything like it. It blends Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Alan Wake, Grand Theft Auto, the Sims and Shenmue all into one epic game with a griping story and in some cases better acting... whats there not to like lol?

I find the game play pretty substandard and boring. However, the whole off-beat and weird way the game presents itself is really charming.

Again, though... It's not because it's quality material but because the game acknowledges that it's a bit off and doesn't take things too seriously. Hell, my friend thought the game was terrible but couldn't stop himself from buying a copy of the game. It's just oddly charming.

I'm definitely watching this ER all the way through.

I always found the games quality was it's quirkiness and one of its quirks is that it pokes fun at its limitations. I know the game isn't perfect but that doesn't stop it from being one of the best games I have played in years. If you dive into this expecting the quality of a game like Wind Waker you might just vomit at first Lol, but if you buy this knowing it is a budget title and can make it past the first 30 minutes you will find a mighty fine game.

The problem is that all of the stuff that people generally feel is good, such as the story, the quirky tone and the odd characters, have nothing to do with gameplay, which is awful in almost every aspect. I enjoy the endurance run, because I can get the oddities and quirks of the story stuff and characters, and I have the guys commentary to make the combat and driving stuff bearable. Would I have fun playing horrible combat and driving segments if I was all on my own? I very much doubt that.

Nobody's questioning Deadly Premonition's low production values. But it certainly has a unique charm. I never saw a game with so much character, so much self-awereness, a game that captures the ellusive B-movie charm. Why do people watch them? For the kitsch, for the lack of budget and for the genuine HEART someone put in to make them.

Deadly Premonition is as far from the term "soulless" as it can be. I can bet that if these guys get a bigger budget next time, they can only get better.

Seriously, this game made me want to buy Way of the Samurai 3, call a friend and do an Endurance Run of are own. Because that game seems as batshit as Deadly Penetration/Double Premonition.

It is a game that you need to play with a friend.  This is a game you want to talk about after playing it, so you need to either have some one watch you play it or take turns or even have your friend buy a copy and play through it with party chat or other wise the slow bits will feel SLOW Lol.

I seriously doubt the Endurance Run is helping sales much at all. Maybe a few hundred suckers bought it for that reason, but that's probably it.

Here I was thinking there would be statistics to back up the thread title.  Boo.

The game is average/mediocre.  Anyone with a level head can see that the game exudes charm, character, and insanity but the combat and production values are much to be desired.  If the gameplay didn't suck (not completely but a lot) then I feel like the game could have easily gotten away with murder (did I just make that pun without realizing?).  However that game has too many flaws to give it a pass.  However I, like many others, have fallen in love with the good parts of the game.  Hell I'm listening to the in-game soundtrack.  Oh goddamn that whistle is awesome.

Yeah, I guarantee you the ER's influence on this game's sales is minimal. I mean how many people actually watch it, a couple thousand?  Probably less than 10% of those people bought the thing, and that comes out to a couple hundred copies getting sold.

I'd like to see some proof that the endurance run is improving sales of Deadly Premonition, as cool as I think the endurance run is I am very skeptical that it has that kind of influence. I don't feel like Jeff, Ryan, Brad and Vinny have ever really considered this a good game either, they've enjoyed the quirky characters but part of the enjoyment of the endurance run seems to have come rather largely from a so-bad-it's-good sense of things. Personally I don't think it's a good game but I suppose during its better moments it has a rather unique charm and the new endurance run has been awesome, even if it's not quite the Persona 4 endurance run (then again, what could be?).

I love "badly" designed "budget" games. Most of my favorite games are "badly" designed and receive terrible review scores and "look like shit."
Either I have bad taste or reviewers are assholes. I'm not sure which is the case. I play all the "hits" that review well, as well. But they just don't make for as interesting of a gameplay experience.

The ER is the most popular feature on a site with almost 100,000 members. You think 2-3% of the people registered watch it? That's not even counting the people who aren't members who still watch the videos.

I'm sure that helped, BUT I did see a thread about that deal on this site, so... I bet people went to that thread, linked to the sale and bought it because they saw a few of the ER's and decided to check it out. So it all works out in the end. I see comments on youtube, gamefaqs and Gametrailers about this websites Deadly Premonition ER and I'm sure some of those people that posted the comments don't even have an account here. I bet just about 1 million gamers come to this site(not all of them  make accounts) so if they do watch the ER and like the game, if only 10% of the people that come here do actually buy it that is... hold on... 100,000 people Lol.

If anything the sales are in spite of the ERs. The response to the game on this site from the guys doing the endurance runs and the majority of those following them is pretty negative. Whose going to buy a game they think sucks?

Really?  They seem much more enthusiastic to me.  Brad and Ryan seem to hate everything but the whistle song.  Jeff and Vinny's episodes have only been short this week because Jeff was away all week so they couldn't continue recording while Brad and Ryan could.

Some people watching them play the game might see that this game is better than they sometimes make it out to be. Both teams seem to hate the nightmare sequences but I didn't really mind them. I got through the sequences pretty quickly, I just think it is the fact that they suck at the game that makes it hard on them. It is fun to see them run past a key or not know how to run through doors and even skip some sequences, but to tell you the truth I never had any of these problem. Some times I wonder if they have already played through the game and scripted the commentary ahead of time knowing if they intentionally suck at the game they can make the ER shows a lot funnier.  But that probably isn't the case unless they are really good actors Lol.

I bought Persona 4 and then eventually Persona 3: FES because of the original endurance run. I have no intentions on buying this though because it looks like crap.

Yeah, I beat ME2 with both male and Female, Heavy Rain several times(rented), GOW3(rented, I really don't like button mashers but God Of War I'll put up with. Kevin Sorbo as Herc made the game worth renting! I Lol'ed when I recognized the voice) I bought FF13 but haven't beat it yet... it is kind of Boring, BFBC2 was fun for like a week but haven't touched it in a while, Red Steel 2 and Endless Ocean Deep Blue are the only games that really impressed me besides Deadly premonition this year.

The RE5 DLC was awesome but it went by a bit to quickly.

If Zelda, Mario and Metroid weren't coming out this year I would make DP my game of the year already Lol. The two bosses at the end were amazing and the story arc's will leave you speechless.

Deadly Premonition seems to personify the whole "stockholm syndrome" mentality more than it should. Everyone that watches or plays it for a few hours knows how utterly terrible that game is in almost every conceivable way. But the people that went ahead and spent forty or so hours on it justify it as if their life depended on it.
Well, fuck that! If the story is the only redeeming factor of this game then its best to take the two minutes to read a synopsis off a fansite. I don't care how charming it could be, there are so many good games out there to play, why bother.

The latest episode was great, Something happened that makes me think Ryan is playing the game behind Brads back. When they ran out of gas he seemed to know that the flare would bring a police car, the way he said, "maybe there is something in your inventory that could help us" implied he has been playing this by him self Lol. I don't blame him, it is a damn good game!
