I've just started watching Twin Peaks for the first time and the similarites to Deadly Premonition is striking. And then the FBI dude appeared, driving in a car, talking to himself through a voice recorder. I hope this show is half as good as the game was. =P
Deadly Premonition
Game » consists of 11 releases. Released Feb 23, 2010
An open-world action-adventure game following an eccentric FBI agent as he investigates a series of bizarre murders in the small rural town of Greenvale.
Twin Peaks similarities
The first season is pretty good but the second is terrrible. Some of the worst pacing and writing I've ever seen.
the show is a little slow, but man is it trippy. And yes, tons of nods to Twin Peaks in Deadly Premonition.

The game was amazing. Ridiculous surprises, interesting characters, ridiculous twists and just the right kind of B movie bad. I'm not exactly looking forward to a Director's Cut since I doubt I'll play the game again for a little extra content, but I'm interested in what Swery's gonna do next.

The show is great, drags a little toward the end. Film is interesting.
There's a film? Does it cover the same ground as the TV show? And is there any particular order I should watch them in? Like, should I watch the film first?

I was going to do that as well, but I was playing through it on hard doing the part where you face like 3 or 4 wall ladies and as soon as I get to the next room it crashes... Each of them took so long to do since you can only shoot or hit them once before running, turning and then repeat, and on hard they have such high health. So I turned it off and haven't played since. Now I'm getting the urge to finish that S rank.

You should get the magnum with infinite ammo. That makes the wall ladies much easier to fight.
Alan Wake has some good Twin Peaks references too man I wish they made a third season of the show so much potential.

I know I had an infinite gun but can't remember if I had the magnum. But I'll check it out.. eventually.

So, is there a satisfying ending after season one? I kinda want to watch it, but if it all ends in a bad "to be continued" kinda way and the second season is terrible....

Well, season one ends on a cliff hanger but they reveal who killed Laura early in season two. After that, season two loses whatever semblance of focus it had and creates a lot of inane, incredibly boring mini story arcs. If you like the first episode of the show you'll probably like at least the first season though.

You meant to say that Deadly Premonition's similarities to Twin Peaks are striking.
Just stick with it. First season is kinda slow but it's sets the complete madness that is season 2.

Twin Peaks is the best TV-show ever made.
And Deadly Premonition is a somewhat blatent rip-off.
How can something be "somewhat blatant"?
Anyway, Deadly Premonition is amazing and Twin Peaks is great, but just the first season and the first few episodes of the second one. After they reveal who killed Laura Palmer, everything they do is filler.

They take about 2 hits from the guitar on the hardest difficulty, if you're brave enough to use it.
edit: oops, cut the quote tree

I, too, came into contact with TP after DP, but I had the common sense to know that the similarities in Deadly Premonition to Twin Peaks were what were striking. It may be incredibly anal of me to point it out, but this is how you get people saying Halo 1 was the modern shooter and the best game ever. Remember your history.
Also, a Fobwashed thread with no pixel art? Make some Agent Cooper pixels or something. DO IT MONKEY.

I mostly agree with what that dude said. The middle portion of the second season is particularly terrible. They fill a lot of time with dumb stories featuring characters who really aren't the ones I wanted to spend time with. Although by the time the second season rolled around there were really only 2 or 3 characters I did want to spend time with. You could probably skip a lot of it and not miss much.
The last 4 or so episodes got interesting again, in a weird way. The end of season 2 doesn't wrap up everything in a neat bow, but it's interesting, I think. Season 1 ends on a total cliffhanger though. Nothing gets wrapped up in season 1.

@Fobwashed: DO NOT WATCH THE FILM UNLESS YOU HAVE SEEN THE SERIES! You have been warned.
LISTEN TO THIS MAN'S WARNING.
Deadly Premonition strikes me as a man who doesn't entirely understand what makes Twin Peaks great trying to copy Twin Peaks but still doing an alright job of it.

I know that Twin Peaks came first, but from my POV having played Deadly Premonition while never having seen Twin Peaks, I'm seeing the FBI agent in Twin Peaks as being similar to Agent York -_-;; It's backasswards but it is what it is to me. Obviously we know which came first and which got influenced from which but mllaaarrghh!
Can't bring myself to do anything with Agent Cooper because I don't have a feel for him yet. I'd rather spend my free time doing some more Vinny frames for that MegaMan thing. Maybe if I end up loving the series I'll pull something out of my ass. Got too much on my plate as it is currently.

As much as it pains me to say that, but If you can't connected to the series then just stop watching it. It's a shame that you went your entire life without watching that series, but at least Deadly Premonition made you aware of Twin Peaks and the huge legacy it has.
Now go watch Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, and Mulholland Drive.

Oh no, don't get me wrong, I'm going to watch at least the first season. Even without the story, I love the setting. The entire thing feels like a period piece now that we're so far removed from the way things were way back when this series was originally aired. The clothes, stereotypes and oh god, the corded gigantic phones. It's all wonderful. Unless the series just goes to shit, I'm sure I'll enjoy my time spent with it. I've only watched a single episode so far and it was pretty good. =)
I LOVE Twin Peaks. :-) I still haven't gotten around to seeing the prequel movie yet because it sounded mediocre.
I watched quite a way through the first season on Netflix but stopped. Not cos I didn't enjoy it, just cos I do that a lot (it's something I need to stop doing). Yeah, I was identifying a ton of stuff that I recognised from Deadly Premonition. It was cool. I'll probably go back to it pretty soon, maybe when DP: Director's Cut is about to come out.
