She is a sarcastic, uptight, and upbeat graffiti gangster who enjoys skating through Tokyo-To without care. Unlike the other characters from the franchise, Gum has had a lot of appearances outside her respected franchise since her debut in 2000. Because of her popularity, Gum is often mistaken as the lead character of the Jet Set Radio series.
