Ghoulish Classic
Decap Attack is a genuine fucking surprise. I had heard about this game once on a show called Game Sack and that aside, not one word. I guess one thing to point out is that Decap Attack is a remade version of a Japanese game that looks completely different and has completely different characters. I think I prefer the look of the Japanese version but don't hold me to that, I haven't played it yet. This however, I played basically all the way through until the end in one sitting. It was awesome.
Decap Attack is such a personable game. Like, above anything else its graphical edge gives it that extra something. Sure, it's really fun to play but there are games VERY similar to this game in mechanics. What really sets it apart is the way it looks, the way it sounds and the vibe you get from it. It's like a goofy, ghoulish atmospheric vibe that you don't see enough. That kind of feeling where you couldn't possibly be scared of it but it draws from that kind of ghouls, monster vibe. But not only does it win with this feeling, it also has a saturated enough look that it doesn't just come off as this "Trying to be real" shit, it's animated, it's a video game.
The thing about DeCap Attack is that it doesn't actually change all that much. The same creatures pop up, the same method of attack is used, the same level structure happens a lot, but it doesn't matter: It's a fucking load of fun. It is one of my favorite Mega Drive games and I strongly advise you check it out.
