Overview
Derek Pappalardo first appears in Mafia II during the intro cutscene, where he is seen looking over the immigrants who have arrived into Empire Bay.
Later in the game, he is mentioned by Maria Scaletta in an effort to give his son, Vito Scaletta an honest job with the union. When Vito visits Derek in his office at the dock warehouse, Vito is offered a job to transfer crates into a truck for $20. Due to the menial pay offered, he leaves the warehouse and is stopped by Steve Coyne when Vito mentions that he works with Joe Barbaro. Steve brings Vito back into Derek's office, and Vito explains that he came at the request of his mother to look for work. To confirm his identity, Derek puts a gun on the table and calls Joe, Derek learns that Vito is a war hero and decides to give him another job - this time to extort local dockworkers to pay their fee to 'the barber'.
