running around with the Perfect Paradox, the escalation protocol shotgun, and the tractor canon is real stupid and fun.

That would be real cool. My first thought is that whatever is redacted will tie into the marketing for D3. These things are not necessarily mutually exclusive, however.

As someone who has played a lot of Destiny 2, and didn't like Destiny 1; I'm a little nervous about the direction they're going. I hope it isn't too "weird" as they put it.

@chrjz: What parts of D2 do you prefer over D1? The overwhelming majority of players I know, especially on the PvP side are foaming at the mouth at these changes. The streaming community has been flocking back to Destiny 2 finally this week on Twitch. Everyone seems to be loving these changes from this, in both PvE and PvP. Running around with Ikelos SG and Whisper of the Worm is so almost broken in PvE it isn't even funny, and I love it. In my opinion, and from a Gameplay perspective, Destiny is finally back. And PvP, you can do this again (friend of mine)...

    Loading Video...

And the stuff that's coming, Mods, Armor Perks, Collections, Random Rolls, etc. All of it looks great.

Note: Also, for anyone that cares, Mercules904's Massive Breakdown is updated.

I keep telling myself not to give Bungie anymore money for this game and yet somehow I keep opening my wallet. Just started back up recently and bought the standard edition of Forsaken. I do hope that endgame is a bit more solo friendly this time around. Never liked the reliance on having friends and/or organizing groups with randoms to make progress in endgame, think of the poor introverts! I know it's an online game but there really is nothing that plays like Destiny that caters to solo play.

I think I got an email this morning (I was half asleep and deleted it) that said Destiny 2 is free for ps plus members? If so I may finally check it out.

It is, but you still need to purchase the two expansions + forsaken (which totals to $60) if you want to play the new current content. So it might be more fair to consider it a free trial with no time limit. All of the base content is still a good chunk of content though, so probably still worth checking out.

@chrjz: As someone very much in the same boat, I'm not really happy with a lot of the changes, especially the focus on grind (infusion is much more expensive and takes and additional 10 planetary materials, removing basically all the customization in favor of random rolls, dailies instead of weekly milestones). Having gotten my hands on one Forsaken weapon twice (great way to start, huh) and spent some time with both, it sorta revealed that the perks don't matter very much - it felt exactly the same in both cases, with slight exceptions (slide to partially reload vs kill clip). I don't think it breaks the system completely, but it does feel like people got used to bad design decisions in D1 and were just going to keep complaining until they came back, so they did it.

@tds418: oh Yeah, obviously. I wouldn't expect to be able to play brand new content for free. As you said though, base game is still alot to go at. I was severely disappointed in Destiny 1, which is the reason I didn't buy Destiny 2 but now I may check it out (although I know I'll still be disappointed, but at least it's only my time I'm wasting).

@frodobaggins: If your last experience with D1 was vanilla D1 than you may be pleasantly surprised. Coherent, cinematic plot-lines, quest systems, more gradual endgame progression, etc. Ultimately it is the quality of the gunplay that keeps most of us fans hooked (combined with the loot lust).

@tds418: eh I'm not optimistic. I know what I want out of a first person, class based, group orientated, loot centric, RPG shooter.... And Destiny just isn't it. I remember when they first announced it, I was so excited. I wanted to love Destiny, there was so much good stuff about it, but so much thay just didn't meet what I wanted out of it.

I'm just not looking at it from a "Destiny is back" perspective because I've enjoyed D2 a lot more than I ever did D1. I like the Crucible a lot and I'm sure I can get used to the changes but I'm not sure if they're better. I don't think I like a lower TTK or shotguns in your face around every corner. I'll probably find a play style that works for me eventually... These changes seem fine in PvE from a gameplay perspective.

That's how one of the devs referred to the aspects of D1 that they want to bring back, "make Destiny weird again." The stuff that they've said that resonates with players, like Whisper and the Escalation Protocol are things I haven't done. I haven't even bothered to look up how the EP works...

The infusion change was a big bummer when I first noticed it... Thankfully they seem to be significantly increasing the amount of planetary materials you can earn but it still seems like an unnecessary extra grind.

The Forsaken SMG I got with DSR and Threat Detector seems quite good but I would prefer to have more, different items than to collect three of the same gun to try and see which perk makes the least negligible difference...

@chrjz: Escalation Protocol and Whisper are great examples of really good Destiny design: here's stuff to go do that's moderately difficult to challenging (depending on who you do it with) with concrete rewards. More of those is a great thing, and it sounds like they're doing a lot of that in Forsaken (at least another mode like EP). I'm going in hopeful that people are going to push back some about the dramatic increase in grind, and we'll see some of it lessened, get more stuff like the Guaranteed New Exotic from Xur. But that's only going to be year 1 stuff for now, so who really knows.

Yeah... and I would absolutely do them but I think I need people to group up with. I'm currently in a pretty inactive clan. Anybody with a cool group of people on the PC looking for members?

@chrjz: I think Goldman Shaxx is the only really active GB Destiny clan right now, but there's always a huge uptick at new releases so if you're in the GB Discord I think you'll be able to start getting people to help soon. I'm on PC too, so feel free to hit me up if you want to do stuff: Charongreed#1270.

@chrjz: You really should hit up the GB Destiny Discord. There are actually a lot of active PC players around as I talk to a bunch of those guys on a daily basis about random stuff. I expect the Discord to heat back up in a big way next week again too, but even this past week it's been really active. As far as Clans go Goldman Shaxx and Taswell Corps are two of the most active, but since I run Taswell and play on PS4, they don't really have any central leadership like Shaxx does. I updated the Clans and Grouping post a few weeks ago and will again shortly after launch with how active the Clans are, so you might check out one of those if you can't get in with Shaxx. There are a lot of people around here that enjoy playing Destiny together and helping out.

@charongreed: The guaranteed New Exotic from Xur isn't going to be a thing anymore. I thought I had it updated here, and I'll make sure I do, but Xur's Fated Engrams will only be giving out pre-Forsaken Exotics now. If that's not what you were referencing I'm sorry, but that's what it sounded like, so I wanted to clarify that won't be a thing anymore.

Edit: It's there, but in the updates section at the bottom, so you might have missed it.

And for anyone who is jumping in for the first time to Destiny 2 via Playstation Plus, or jumping back in for Forsaken, I'm currently updating the Information and Leveling Guide, but it may take a few days (I only update it when we aren't busy at work). If you are curious about how something works, it's likely you might find the answer there if it isn't on the list of changes here.
