Ok I get that this is only a teaser but it feels like a remarkably different tone compared to the first game, don't you think? I suppose we will find out on the 30th when the really trailer drops.

Destiny 2
Game » consists of 4 releases. Released Sep 06, 2017
The full-fledged follow-up to Bungie's sci-fi "looter shooter", streamlining much of the previous game's mechanics while featuring larger worlds and new abilities. It was later made free-to-play.
New Destiny 2 Teaser Is Real Dumb
Yeah, that didn't feel like the original at all in terms of tone. Hopefully they don't try to swerve away from an annoying lack of self-awareness so hard that they go into annoyingly ironic territory.
I'm not sure I'll like it (at all) if this is the tone the game will go for instead, as a reaction to the poor reception to the story in the first game.
Who knows though, this might just be them trying to make a funny teaser trailer...
I remember the trailers "specifically the music from tv spots" to be very off of the serious tone as well. It was more of a "Yeah let's murder space guys" type of vibe compared to what the actual game was made out to be. Oh well, I'm very very curious as to what this game is gonna be. If most of the rumors are true then this could turn out to be the game they wanted the first destiny to be.
And yet I feel like there's a way this could have been done well that took itself seriously and combined the similarities of the bar story and the fireside story to achieve something with the mythic tone of the Destiny lore if not world.
I really dig this teaser.
They've been sprinkling in some levity and less self-seriousness in the game's expansions for a while now. If anything, they might be leaning more into Taken King territory which featured a fair amount of this tone from this character.
I mean, I didn't laugh but I'd still take this tone over the boring bullshit that was the first game. But like @sackmanjones said, the first game also had it's Immigrant trailers and whatnot.
I think this is a lot of fun. Hopefully the sequel will have the kind of personality that was in The Taken King that was absent in pretty much everything else before and after that expansion.
@firepaw: @donutfever: Yeah, feels as if someone was real high on the recent Deadpool trailers.

For sure. And they could have still had the natural humour that comes with stories like that without sacrificing the overall tone.
@glots: I don't think tone really has anything to do with how boring something is.
C'mon guys. It's obviously just a bit of fun, and it's totally in line with Cayde-6's personality. The sky isn't falling.
This, it's perfectly in line with Nathan Fillion's character in the game and honestly, the game got better after it stopped taking itself so seriously. Just listen to how bored peter dinklage was trying to stoically deliver the lines in vanilla destiny. Northbot's more lighthearted take was in line with the game IMO.
@jonny_anonymous: Sure, but at least more of a "quirky" tone might make the game more appealing to me. Kinda liked how I enjoyed Watch Dogs 2 way more than the first game and it's bland tone, even though the gameplay wasn't dramatically changed.
Of course, Destiny would still need a better story, more interesting missions, way more varied locations and all that jazz...but at least it's a start. Always enjoyed the shooting, if anything.
@glots: I'd rather it was more stylish with an epic mythical feel like Conan or Riddick and less quirky Deadpool-style jokes. I feel like literally every big budget anything has this exact tone these days.
Wow the salt. I actually enjoyed the teaser quite a bit and do not think they could have done a better job with it. Cayde-6 has been one of the best Destiny characters and he was the reason The Taken King's story felt so much better than anything else Bungie has done in Destiny 1. A focus on him for this was 100% the correct move. The focus on Sweeper Bot too, that was fantastic. If you don't understand the significance of that, I'll refer you to one of the top Reddit posts of this week, https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/61u7s3/the_real_victim_of_destiny_2s_events/ and point out that the Sweeper Bot is who we temporarily stole the Lost Broom Sparrow from for the Halloween Event for 2016. Considering we already knew that Destiny 2 was going to start with the destruction of The City by the Cabal (which this trailer is very much displaying) I honestly think this is the perfect setup teaser for Destiny 2.
Cool trailer to me, i guess getting as far away from the "up its own ass" story tone of the first game is good to me. Make the gameplay fun, more meaningful loot, more planets i may jump back on board at some point.
@firepaw: @donutfever: Yeah, feels as if someone was real high on the recent Deadpool trailers.
I dont know, I got more of a Guardians (!) of the Galaxy vibe which i'd rather the game leaned into compared to it's "Become Legend" nonsense the first game was spouting.

How do we know this?? I'm not the most tuned in to Bungie happenings, but I've been under the impression that we don't know too much about D2 yet. A Cabal focus would make sense because they never were the focus of a D1 expansion, but that's the only thing I can think of.
I was puzzled by some people being PSYCHED by this teaser. Like it's basically "Blah, blah, blah, who has time for meetings?! We're gonna shoot stuff!!" If they were going to use Immigrant Song for a trailer, it should have been this one. I don't know, it seemed kinda lame.
Also the roll out for this is pretty slow. They released an image, then a teaser, just so they can tease a trailer coming like 3 days from now? Even Rockstar doesn't mess around this long. Then again this is also a sequel to a game that had ads on ESPN like a year before the game came out so sure.
@nasher27: It's been leaked several times from reputable sources. I'll link them later when I have the time.
Edit: Namely a Megablocks set listed on Amazon made serious mention to it back in January. It was also highly suspected for awhile that the next DLC would Cabal due to listings by Bungie before Destiny 1's launch. This DLC got pushed back, and back, and back, until likely it became what will now be Destiny 2 and was expanded into a full game. MyNameIsByf does a pretty good job of explaining the Megablocks leak and it's potential ramifications here from back in January.
Either way, around Reddit, it's been seen more or less as a fact that Destiny 2 would open with the Destruction of the City by the Cabal for months now. Which it turns out according to this teaser, was entirely correct.
Big fan, guardians of the galaxy, fun-loving tone. This series needs a refocus and a FOCUS in general. Love this feel, hope it moves into gameplay.
Even Rockstar doesn't mess around this long.
Are you joking? Rockstar released a teaser in October that really didn't show anything about the game, and haven't said anything since.

With GTA V and RDR2, they basically announced the game and then showed a trailer a week or two later. Destiny 2's announcement, teaser, and trailer within a week just feels like a bit much. And that doesn't include the end of Destiny 1 streams or events they are doing. They should just reveal the game.
Maybe I would feel differently if Destiny seemed actually good. From an outsider, having the first game bookended between a bad launch and not good to dwindling support isn't that inspiring. It would probably be better to just come out with a bang then what they're currently doing.
Was that the new Borderlands teaser?
Seriously, what the fuck? Is that actually what Destiny turned into after all the rejiggering and DLC?
Hard to complain about this game not having a similar tone to the first game when the first game didn't have one. I love Destiny unapologetically, but that game only worked from it's gameplay, in terms of character and story, it was a flat pulse. I welcome literally any change they make that gives the sequel ANY kind of life.
Meh, its just a CGI ad where Cayde is being Cayde, ill care more in a few days when the trailer drops. But yea i hope they go more with the humor rather then over serious tone of the first game, it has helped with the expansions and updates to the game in terms of making me care about what little story there was. I cant count how many times my eye's rolled after hearing about how powerful this dude you where fighting was, or how there was this big lore and backstory, only for the game to never really make good on those comments in the first game.
I didn't laugh or anything, but I really liked it. It was amusing. Got me curious to check what's coming. I never cared much about Destiny but always enjoyed Destiny's visuals and art (character design, etc) and the little I know about the lore seems somewhat interesting so if they can keep that with a better game and more story and some of the tone on this teaser, I'm in.
So I guess this teaser worked for me at least.
So I actually just watched it, and all I can gleam is that "I got this" is now the catch-phrase of 2017.
Destiny did a shit job of making you feel like you were "the one", but the story was centered around you being "the one". This did a good job of making it clear that you are very much not "the one". This trailer at least shows an understanding of the sort of story that best aligns itself with the Destiny gameplay model, in which you are one of thousands of other people with guns running out to go shootin' in an endless supply of perpetual conflicts.
