VIP Pack
- Reach current Light Level 30 by August 31st or buy both Dark Below and House of Wolves by the same date.
- Rewards are a Founders Sparrow, Shader, and Emblem, shown previously to be all black. Some believe the Shader is the infamous Superblack Shader everyone was searching for how to obtain in the early Destiny days after launch.
Character
- Character level cap raised from 20 to 40.
- All existing players become the level of their highest Light Level obtained thru September 14th, so all current Light Level 34's will start The Taken King at level 34.
- Light Levels are removed and changed to a Light Gear Score that is an average of all of your equiped gear (explained below under Weapons and Armor section).
- All purchases of The Taken King grant 1 Spark of Light, obtained from the Postmaster than when used on any character will automatically level that character to level 25, the base level for The Taken King missions.
- New equipable Ghost Shells found under Weapons slots. Now has a skin, gear rating, stat bonuses, and perks like increased Glimmer from Hive enemies or Titan kills in Crucible.
- Class items changed so that they also have gear rating, stat bonuses, and perks such as more Armor when playing as a Solar class or decreased damage from Solar Burn on an activity.
- New equipable items called Relics, found and equiped under your class item that also grant gear rating, stat bonuses, and perks. Relatively little is otherwise known about these, like what those perks may be.
- Not shown on screen, just dancing, but it is known that new Emotes can be equiped in each Emote slot found under the Emblems on the Character screen. One of the Emotes shown on the Twitch stream was The Sprinkler dance.
- Materials and Consumables held has been upgraded to 20 from 15 with the removal of Bounites from the Inventory screen (see Quests and Bounties).
- Grimoire is now shown on the Character Screen just under Character Level and was replaced by Light Score on your Emblem.
- Holding L2 on the Character Screen now shows the damage type of all equipped weapons.
UI
Legendary Marks
- Legendary Marks are replacing Crucible and Vanguard Marks.
- All Existing Marks will be turned into Commendations of the same type, that trade amount is 50 Marks per Commendation as announced in the Weekly Update, so a Max of 8 per character going into The Taken King.
- Commendations, like before, can be dismantled for faction rep and experience.
- Max cap on Legendary Marks is 200.
- Legendary Marks will no longer have a Weekly Cap, you can obtain as many as possible until you hit 200.
- Legendary Marks are now profile wide, so all of your characters access the same pool of Marks just like Glimmer.
Quests and Bounties
- New Bounties have been added to The Taken King.
- A New Progress Tab has been added to the Pause Menu that tracks Bounties and Quests.
- Bounty slots have been updated to hold up to 16 Bounties at a time.
- Bounties can be turned in and finished anywhere in the game world, you no longer have to go back to the tower to turn them in. Though it is not known if you can obtain new bounties anywhere but the bounty board, so there may not be a reason to turn in bounties before going back to the tower.
- New more involved Bounty type activities called Quests that are much more involved than Bounties, more similar to old Exotic Weapon Bounties or Elder Ciphers with greater rewards like a Legendary Heavy.
- You can hold up to 32 Quests at one time. Which indicates that there are a lot of new possible quests to finish in The Taken King. Those quests are given out by most of the Vendors and Faction reps in the Tower.
- Bounty progress can be tracked by pressing up or down on the D pad while in the Navigation Menu.
Tower
- Weapons can now be swapped and shown on your back just like choosing a weapon slot in game at the Tower.
- You can view your character in the Character Screen without a helmet just like you could previously do in the Tower.
Vendors and Factions
- All Vendors still sell Weapons, Armor, Class Items, etc, but now also sell Ghost Shells.
- That gear can be purchased for Legendary Marks and Glimmer, just like before with Vanguard/Crucible Marks.
- Beware: All of the items shown were Level 40 items and cannot be used until your chacter level has hit 40. Similar to how all items in base Destiny sold by Vendors were Level 20.
Factions
- Factions can now be pledged to once a week for 2,500 Glimmer, but cannot be changed until after the next weekly reset. Pledging to a Faction gives you that Factions Badge.
- This removes the need to wear Faction Class Items.
- When pledged to a faction you obtain both Vanguard/Crucible Rank as well as Faction Rank, unlike previously where all Rep went to whatever faction you wore a class item for, or to Vanguard/Crucible if not wearing Faction Class Items.
- Factions have specific Quests that can be obtained.
- Faction packages obtained from leveling up a faction now always contain a Legendary Item.
- Faction packages also contain Motes, Strange Coins, and a higher chance than before to obtain Shaders/Emblems.
- Once a Shader/Emblem has been obtained it is removed from the loot table of possible rewards from Faction Packages, and can no be obtained on any character from the Shader/Emblem kiosks (see Shaders and Emblems Kiosks under Vault).
- Each faction has a Materials Exchange where you can give that faction materials in exchange for Faction Rep.
Cryptarch
- The Cryptarch now sells Legendary Engrams instead of Whites/Greens. Those Engrams now cost a varied amount of Legendary Marks dependant on the type of item, instead of the cost being Glimmer as it was in the past.
- The current assumption is that, like Factions, the Cryptarch Packages will now also contain a guaranteed Legendary Engram.
Banshee the Gunsmith
- Banshee now has his own Reputation System. To gain rep you must check-out/rent White quality weapons called Field Test Weapons. Certain goals must be then met with Field Test Weapons to finish the tests and return the weapons for Rep.
- Armsday is a new weekly event that happens every Wednesday. The week before Banshee will sell Foundry Orders, that while they do not display the weapons for sale, are specific weapons with their names and foundry given (more of weapon Foundries under Weapons and Armor).
- The Gunsmith will still sell weapon Telemetries/Synthesis.
- While not talked about and only briefly shown, there was still a section at the Gunsmith called Reforge Weapons, so that will still be in The Taken King, even if it is just for old House of Wolves weapons.
Xur
- One of the new items Xur will have in stock will be called the Three Of Coins. This item increases the drop rate of Exotics on your next boss fight. What determines a boss fight and if it is just an increase to that boss' drop rate or a flat percentage chance of a drop has yet to be clarified.
Speaker
- The Speaker still sells Class Items, just updated Taken King Class Items.
- The Speaker also sells Ghost Shells as well.
- Materials Exchange is still located at the Speaker just like in House of Wolves.
Vault and Kiosks
Vault Space
- Weapon slots have been upgraded to 72 Weaons slots on 2 pages under a new Weapons Tab.
- Armor slots have also been upgraded to 72 Armor slots on 2 pages under the Armor tab.
- General slots have been upgraded to 36 on a single page, due primarily to the new use of Kiosk's.
Kiosks
- Kiosks have been added around the Tower for Armor Shaders, Emblems, and even Exotic Weapons.
- Kiosks will allow you to see every Armor Shader in Destiny, reaquire that Shader on all characters even if only one character has unlocked it, and show you how to obtain all of the shaders you have yet to find in Destiny. The same goes for Emblems.
- Exotic Kiosks will show the unlocked Exotic Blueprints for Exotic Weapons or Armors previously found in Destiny (for more info see Exotic Blueprints under Weapons and Armor).
- These Kiosks should in theory save you a lot of Vault Space since there will no longer be a reason to keep Items with a Kiosk in your Vault, other than the cost of rebuying and leveling Exotics.
Weapons and Armor
Attack/Defense Values
- Attack and Defense values have been reset from a Max of 365 on Weapons and 42 Light with random defense values on each type of Armor to a Standard Light Rating of 190 on both Weapons and Armor.
- So Max gear from Year 1 is 190, the power of those Weapons and Armor has not changed, just the numerical Value associated with it have.
- New Legendary and Exotic Level 40 weapons and Armor sold by Vendors and Exotic Kiosks in the Tower show Light Rating of 280.
- Some Legendary drops will actually have a higher Light Rating than 280 though, as shown in the Twitch reveal with a 290 Level 40 Auto Rifle.
- The Pre-Twitch reveal trailer also showed a player named Rook_BNG at Level 30 with a Light Rating of 320 so it is likely that the max Light Rating is much higher than 290 on gear since a Level 30 had a Light Rating of 320, but no gear has been shown so far as being higher than 290, although it was hinted that Raid Gear would, once again, far outclass Vendor Gear as far as Light Rating goes.
Infusion
- Infusion has replaced Ascension from House of Wolves. It allows you to use higher Light Rating gear that isn't wanted to be Infused into lower Light Rating gear, and bring the lower Light Rated gear up close to the level of the Light Rating of the gear that was Infused.
- The example shown was using a Light Rating 290 Auto Rifle to Infuse a 280 Scout Rifle for 250 Glimmer,10 Weapon Parts, 1 Mote of Light, and 3 Legendary Marks left the Infused Scout Rifle at a Light Rating of 288.
- Like the Reforging Perk in House of Wolves, Infusion is limited to only Taken King items. Although one would think this process would live on after the Taken King.
Exotic Blueprints
- Exotic Blueprints are given for every Exotic Weapon/Armor that a player has obtained in Destiny on any character.
- The Exotic Kiosks are found at the bottom of the Tower on the right and left front wall of the Vanguard room with the Warlock, Titan, and Hunter Vendors.
- Year 1 Exotic Blueprints can be turned into actual Exotic Weapons/Armor for 2,500 Glimmer and 1 Exotic Shard, but will need to be releveled.
- All Year 1 Exotics are set to a Light Rating of 160, which is slightly lower than the max Light Rating of other Year 1 Legendaries at 190.
- Some Year 1 Exotics are getting a Year 2 Counterpart.
- All Year 2 Exotics are set to a Light Rating of 280 just like the Vendor sold Level 40 gear and look to be set at Level 40 as well.
- Not all Year 1 Exotics have a Year 2 counterpart. The three that were shown were Suros Regime, Obsidian Mind, and Light Beyond Nemasis.
- Year 2 Exotic counterparts have new perks that were not on older Exotics.
- Examples are that Suros Regime no longer forces you to have Focused Fire, you can now also choose Spinning Up, which allows Suros to have a faster fire rate the longer it is fired, but you lose the bonus damage output of Focused Fire. Light Beyond no longer has Infusion or health regen when picking up an orb but now has Inverse Shadow which grants faster Super filling when killing Minions of the Darkness.
- Other Year 2 Exotic counterparts known or theorized are Voidfang Vestments, Monte Carlo, Red Death, Hawkmoon, Bad Juju, The Last Word, 4th Horseman, Thunderlord, and Truth. The Weekly Update also included No Backup Plans as another guaranteed Year 2 Exotic.
- Bungie has hinted that they will attempt to make counterparts for some of the Year 1 Exotics, but not all of those may will make it into the September 15th release of The Taken King. In the Weekly Update, Bungie announced that Gjallarhorn Will Not be receiving a Year 2 counterpart.
- Year 2 Exotics Do Not need to be found again, they are simply unlocked when their Year 1 counterparts are found and are available for purchase when you hit Level 40 for Legendary Marks.
- Exotic Namesake Perks are already unlocked on all Year 2 Exotics.
- Many of the new Exotics are tied to specific Questlines.
New Exotic Weapons
- Jade Rabbit - Playstation Exclusive Scout Rifle with kinetic damage and a Sniper like scope.
- No Time To Explain - Re-imagined Strangers Rifle with Arc Damage, all Precision Shots add that bullet back to the magazine.
- Unnamed Auto Rifle - Shoots Chain Lightning.
- Unnamed Sniper Rifle - Blinds Enemies on Precision Hits.
- Sleeper Stimulant - Heavy Fusion Rifle that charges massive shots that over-penetrate targets and bounce off walls like Hardlight, said to be the Gjallarhorn killer.
- 347 Vesta Dynasty - Long rumored Scout Rifle, thought originally to be in House of Wolves, with David (increases agility for precision kills) and Goliath (increased armor for non precision kills) perks.
- Chaperone - Shotgun that fires a single slug round instead of 12 rounds, precision kills grants temporary increases to handling, range, rate of fire, and stability.
- Telesto - Void Fusion Rifle whose rounds stick to targets and has a delayed blast, multi kills creates orbs for allies.
New Exotic Armors
- 3 unknown new Exotic Armors for each class for both Playstation and Xbox.
- Empyrean Bellicose - Titan Helm, allows Titans to remain floating in air while aiming, and allows full super orb pickup to grant melee recharge.
- Alchemist's Raiment - Warlock Chest, Primary Ammo collection grants extra glimmer, and full super orb pickup grants melee and grenade recharge.
- Sealed Ahamkara's Grasps - Hunter Gloves, grants an additional melee charge and your melee damage can reload your primary weapon.
- Hesperos - Titan Playstation Exclusive, built to withstand excruciating heat and pressure (likely Sunbreaker item, see New Guardian Classes).
- Azoth Bend - Warlock Playstation Exclusive, bend mysteries of matter and energy to your will (possible Stormcaller item, see New Guardian Classes).
- Neurogast - Hunter Playstation Exclusive, perfect Union of Mind/Body, become an Elite Assassin with the power of both Man and Machine (likely Nightstalker item, see New Guardian Classes).
Weapon Foundries
Many if not all of the new Taken King weapons are from one of the Weapon Foundries found in Taken King. These Foundries represent the Tribal Gunsmiths that scavengened and repaired weapons from The Golden Age and put their own style and feel to the Guardian Arsenal. Surviving Weapon Foundries are now highly scrutinized and monitored by The City after the Faction Wars. Of those foundaries, these are the ones that survived.
- Suros - Elegant, Brutal, and Precise.
- Omolon - Experimental, Irresponsible, and running on barely understoon Power Cell technology.
- Hakke - Funcitonal, like a Hammer rather than a Scalpal.
Also Rumored are Cassoid, Crux/Lomar, Daito, Nadir, and Tex Mechanica.
Weapon Types
- New Sword Heavy has been shown. Not a lot of information is out about this yet, but we have seen several damage types for it. It has been revealed that the sword can actually be used defensively like the Relic from Vault of Glass to block damage, but it will not block the damage of the element that it is, so if it is an Arc Sword, it will not block Arc damage.
- More Sidearms besides the two that currently exist in House of Wolves.
Armor Materials
- All armor materials for classes such as Plasteel Plating, Sapphire Wire, and Hardronic Essence has been replaced with a material just called Armor Materials.
- All existing Plasteel Plating, Sapphire Wire, and Hadronic Essence will still exist for older armor sets, but can be traded for Armor Materials.
Intellect/Disipline/Strength
- All Armor pieces and characters have had stats completely overhauled.
- Each stat now displays how much of a cooldown, in seconds, that you receive when reaching that Tier of Cooldown, instead of the vague 0-100% it was previously.
- The actual stat values seem to have decreased drastically. The cap is now 170 on each from 270.
Miscellaneous Changes
- Nolan North has replaced Peter Dinklage as the voice of the Ghost. All previous lines were redone, so Dinklage's version of the Ghost will no longer be in Destiny after September 15th.
- All former and new cutscenes in Destiny are now skippable.
New PVE Content
New Guardian Classes
Each Class will receive a new 3rd Subclass that represents the element they are missing currently in Destiny. Each of these Classes will have their own unique Story Mission and Quest chain that needs to be completed to obtain access to that Subclass, given by your Vanguard Mentor.
- Warlock Stormcaller - Arc subclass with a Super called Stormtrance that allows you to chain Arc Lightning from your hands as you hover around the battlefield.
- Titan Sunbreaker - Solar subclass with a Super called Hammer of Sol that allows you to throw and melee enemies with fiery hammers.
- Hunter Nightstalker - Void subclass with a Super called Shadowshot that tethers a large group of foes to a Void Anchor that silences and suppresses them, looks to slow movement speed and prevent ability use similar to a suppression grenade and the House of Wolves Mines. Can also be used to one shot most foes when directly hit.
New Quests and Bounties
- New bounties called Fireteam Bounties have been added that gain progress when any player in your fireteam completes an objective on the bounty.
- Class specific bounties have been added, and sound similar to what was attempted back in Dark Below with Eris.
- Brand new Vanguard bounties from the Bounty Board.
- New Race specific bounties to complete.
Story Missions
- 8 New Campaign mission to complete, supposedly taking 6-7 hours to complete.
- Special mission on Phobos called The Coming War, seems like it is the intro mission into The Taken King.
- Additional Story missions will be unlocked after the Campaign is completed, similar to the Urn Quest in The Dark Below I assume.
- Additional Quests that culminate in an event labeled the The Taken War occurs after the Campaign is complete as well.
Dreadnaught Patrol
- New Patrol Destination with multiple races located within. It is the Hive Ship that Oryx is located on.
- It is supposedly as massive as The Cosmodrome but tight enough that you cannot summon your Sparrow.
- During the missions on the Dreadnaught, you actually setup the Patrol Beakons that are used on Patrol since you are the first Dreadnaught explorers.
- Contains hidden platforms and artifact that can only be discovered when opening your Ghost in front of.
- Player instigated Public Events.
- Arcane Objects summon "Ultra Bosses".
New Strikes
- Fallen Saber - Located in the Underground Seraph Vault and instigated by a distress call from Rasputin from The Dark Below, boss is a Giant Shank.
- Shield Brothers - Located on the Dreadnaught, two Cabal brothers try to destroy the Dreadnaught with you on it, sounds like our first Romeo and Juliet Boss.
- The Sunless Cell - Located on the Dreadnaught, hunt for a Hive Darkblade who rebelled against Oryx, fight through utter darkness.
- Echo Chamber - Playstation Exclusive on Venus, stop the Restorative Mind from reviving Sekrion, described as having Raid Lite mechanics.
- 3 Old Stikes have been remade with Taken Enemies now, Dust Palace, Undying Mind, and Cerberus Vae.
New Raid
- King's Fall - Located on the Dreadnaught, it is said to be by far the largest Raid in Destiny yet. Supports a fireteam of 6 just like the previous 2 Raids. The current assumption is that this is where you will finally fight and kill Oryx, but keep in mind this is just current speculation.
- Known to contain Raid Gear just like the previous two Raids.
- It is unknown what the Light Rating of King's Fall Gear will be but it was suggested that it was much higher than the level 40 Legendaries at Light Rating 280, one would think it would be at least Light Rating 320, since that is the Light Rating we have seen so far.
- Gear drop rates are said to remember what has dropped for you in the past so that you then have a higher chance of previously unobtained loot dropping.
- It is currently unknown what Level Requirements exist for the Normal and Hard version of the Raid, will update when that information becomes available.
PVP - Crucible
- Elimination will become a permanent playlist that will disappear each time Trials becomes available.
- All Year 1 Playstation Maps have been released on both Platforms.
- The Matchmaking algorithm has once again been tweaked to provide better competition via connection and skill based Matchmaking.
- Lord Shaxx now has 6 bounties per week that are more difficult to complete than standard Crucible bounties. The 6th bounty is completed once the other 5 have been finished. When that bounty is complete to earn Unknown Rewards, which according to Bungie is basically the equivalent to a Nightfall reward.
- Trials of Osiris now have their own 3 Crucible bounties each weekend.
- Two Bounties each day for the Daily Playlist.
- All new Crucible based Questlines.
- Daily Class specific Crucible bounty.
- New Mercy Rule ends Crucible matches early if one team is at a significant advantage.
New Game Modes
- Zone Control - No points for kills, only for capturing and holding Control Points.
- Rift - Destiny's version of Capture the Flag, each team tries to capture a "Spark", once captured the "Runner" can deliver the Spark to the other teams "Rift" and ignite it in for points. A Rift Ignite kills all opponents near the Rift.
- Mayhem - Variation of Clash where the cooldown of Abilities is greatly reduced and Super use is very commonplace. Doubled Heavy Ammo spawns as well.
New Maps
- Sector 618 - Playstation Exclusive on the Comodrome Wall. Has a Fallen House of Devils theme.
- Crossroads - Mars map with two cannons that launch you from one side of the map to the other, you can still shoot while flying in the air.
- Veritigo - Mercury Vex Platform with a one way Vex Gate.
- Memento - European Dead Zone on Earth, sky is filled with an ongoing enemy assault, and it is a vertical map.
- Ghost Ship - Located on the Reef on a Fallen Ship, has ragdoll space effects and unusual physics.
- Bannerfall - Located in The Last City on the other side of the city as The Tower. Looks very similar to The Tower though.
- Exile - Located on Saturn, 3 main lanes on different levels looking out at Saturn's rings.
This is pretty much finished, please add any information in the comments section that you would like updated or added.
