Raids don't open until Tuesday, I wouldn't be surprised if the bigger sites are waiting to try them (it) out before posting a review.

Turns out there is a website that does this, who knew.

Also GameRankings, which I prefer. And what do you know, it's another fine CBSi property :o
@beachthunder: Wait. Why does CBSi need GameRankings AND Metacritic? Then again they have this site and Gamespot. And Game FAQs. So many gaming sites.

So wait, what could potentially be a really big element of the game wasn't even available when those reviews were written?I mean maybe it's weird to have to wait to review something until shortly after release but I'd rather do that than have the review potentially compromised.
I feel like there needs to be at least a little more time to play the game before any judgement is really passed.
Glad that a few sites out there still take their time with reviews, hopefully they give this game some time to show off all of it's features if nothing else.

That eventual day when things get tough in the gaming website scene, or some new big wig is hired and it's time to consolidate is going to be pretty interesting.
@jarmahead: The reviews are reviewing what's available to people when the game launches. I think that's fair enough for the sites to do. If Bungie/Activision want people to buy their game week one, the reviews should review what content is available. It's all well and good saying that in another week or two more content will be added to the game, but look at Alex's review on NHL 15. It's missing a ton of features which the devs/publisher are saying will come for free down the line, but if they're not ready at the time of review then they can't be accounted towards a score or impression.
Yeah I was a little cold on the game at first. But now that I'm 25 I'm having a fucking blast! My main gripe is more lack of social features, and I'm still not sure no matchmaking in raids is a good idea? Overall bungie just announced a bunch of new events tonight and I really looking forward to taking on the vault of glass!

Well, there are far different expectation given to day 1 content in a persistent online game and an annual sports game. It's common practice for MMO reviews to be held back weeks after official launch in order to put end game content and the full breadth of the experience in the proper context. Destiny isn't a full fledged MMO, but it's got enough of those elements that a "day 1 review" isn't ideal.

Ok that's good to hear! Could you explain why you're having more fun at the 'endgame'? In other words, what is there to do when you are max level? Are there reasons to return to Earth for instance?
There is no point to waiting to review it. There has been more then enough time to review everything that's in it, both the "story" and the endgame. Guess what it's all basically the same thing. A couple 6 man "raids" instead of 3 man strikes aren't going to fundamentally change shit, when the entire games design in both enemies and encounters and gameplay is 99% the same throughout.

I am the reverse I got to the endgame and think it's the worst part of the game. You are just grinding the exact same boring strikes over and over for rep. (or pvp i guess) They are not even new strikes, just stuff you've done already as the game progressed with all the same simplistic same "boss" designs. It's an undisguised treadmill of the worst degree. The worst part of MMO raiding, without any of the good stuff, like interesting content.
Anyone reviewing the game right now is an idiot and their opinion can be ignored. Raiding isn't in yet, most people aren't 20, I have not seen anyone over level 24, I could count the number of people I have seen with epics on two hands. You shouldn't review if you haven't experienced everything (or at least tried it and failed) and I have put 20 hours in this game already and I would not want to write a review yet.
Here's the Polygon review http://www.polygon.com/2014/9/12/6138497/destiny-review-no-fate
It gets.. 6/10

Yeah, but a review isn't simply a thought exercise. It needs to be useful, right? After a certain amount of time a written review ceases to be useful, especially from the business standpoint of the reviewing organization. That's why there's no Persona 4 or Red Dead Redemption reviews on the site, among other big games the crew played and declined to review after the fact.

This is all reason that reviews need to change as games change. For example some websites are now going back and altering their reviews. This seems like the right course for these online games where content is constantly being provided and changes made to the game, and sothe reviews should change to reflect that.
Lets say just for example there could be day one reviews, explaining to reading what's available. Then there could be review alterations down the line explaining what's new and what has changed.

That seems totally reasonable, and GB and Polygon have both done those kinds of updates in the past. Personally, I was extremely disappointed in Destiny for my first 8-or-so hours, but now find myself more and more engaged as I approach level 20. One of my biggest gripes (lack of content) may be addressed by free additions later on, and the raid and event announcements yesterday went a long way towards making me feel better in that regard. But without a monthly fee in place, I can't evaluate in advance the value proposition of $60 game + DLC packs versus the content provided. Right now, there is much less content in both PvE and PvP than in any of the Halo games out-of-the-box, and I don't know if that's going to change with free or paid updates.

Yeah, I'm having fun playing it but the story is really forgettable. I said it before in another thread but it seems like all they're doing in the story is setting things up for some kind of pay off that I know won't come in this game. But still, I'm having fun shooting alien dudes. The social thing definitely needs work, like having a visible clan roster next to your friends' list instead of random people in the game that are in the vicinity of you.
