i basically skip all cutscenes. i just don't care about storylines. yeah, i'm impatient. no, i don't play call of duty.
the impression that i get from the review is that the positive aspects of this game are all storyline-art style-characters-and that stuff, while the gameplay and shooting is not so great. is that true?
the part about the AI - kill dude, wait for other guy to investigate, kill him, wait for next guy, kill him until you have a stack of neatly piled bodies - is it really that bad? if the gameplay is based on stealth, braindead AI is a dealbreaker.
some of the gameplay videos i've seen make this look interesting to me, but all of them have been very short and probably cherry picked by the developers.
so is this worth picking up if i really don't care about the story related stuff? i don't care how pretty the environment is if it's not fun to do stuff in it.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Game » consists of 17 releases. Released Aug 23, 2011
Human Revolution is the third game in the Deus Ex series, a prequel where players take control of augmented security officer Adam Jensen, and investigate attacks against Sarif Industries, a leader in augmentation technology.
worth playing if i totally don't care about the story?
It seems like you might want gameplay, but I want a bit more clarification before I recommend; what exactly do you want from this game? Do you want a fun environment to explore? There are some interesting ideas and a lot of things to do, but it's not very fast and there are some limited resources.
@phrali: thats a tough sell. Ive only played the first level right now and already im noticing problems with enemy AI. They still have that narrow cone of vision from the original deus ex. since i haven't finished the game i can't say for sure but i get the feeling that if you're the gameplay first type of person than you are probably better off waiting for a price drop
Sometimes the story is awful and detracts from the overall game. For instance I skipped the stroy in The Dishwasher: Vampire Smiles. But to skip every story like he claims is a little extreme.
god i forgot how sensitive video game people are about their stories
no i don't skip EVERY cutscene. yes i want some kind of context.
but in my opinion, most video game stories are just plain BAD. people think MGS has some deep story, i think it is an editor's nightmare. people think mass effect has a great story, i think it is a bloated cheesy space opera b-movie reject. this is my opinion. please no flame wars. i just HATE it when it is obvious that the developer spent more time worrying about the script than the gameplay mechanics. which is pretty often. and usually it results in bad gameplay and a bad script anyways.

thanks, that's kind of what i was looking for.
You sound like my friend who played Halo 2 skipped all the cutscenes then complained because he didn't know why you played as Keith David on some levels. AKA, a retard.
@valrog said:hahaSo what do you do when it comes to dialog?LALALALALALALA I can't hear you.
Yeah seriously if Mass Effect and Metal Gear Solid don't have stories that are good enough for you I suggest you stop playing video games. Or maybe just play CoD or similar games where the story is just a flimsy excuse to put you in a ridiculous situation which revolves around you killing alot of people in ridiculous ways.

You're asking if a story and dialog driven RPG that just happens to be a shooter is worth playing if you are going to ignore the story and you are getting offended that people think you are asking a dumb question?
Also on the Metal Gear Solid saga:
MGS2: had a crazy amazing meta plot that takes a while to soak in but not many people catch that and depends on having played Metal Gear Solid 1
MGS4: was rewarding to people who played through the Metal Gear series religiously...not much for newcomers story wise...
Hideo Kojima is not for everyone but MGS2 and MGS4 do have good stories for the people with tastes compatible with it.
I don't want this to sound like a flame, just attempting to point out things about MGS that some overlook...
As far as Deus Ex you should try to get into the story, disregard the voice acting that's a legacy thing, just remember it's a modern cyber punk story. As opposed to MGS4 where the cut scenes could kill a man there are few enough pre-rendered ones here that it would be just a nuisance to skip them. Also half the game play is dialogue trees and world building e-mails/newspapers/e-books so not getting into the world will cut you off from half the reason to play.
Also might I ask if you know of any game that you consider to have a good story in your opinion?
