Deus Ex
Game » consists of 8 releases. Released Jun 22, 2000
A celebrated cyberpunk-themed first-person role-playing game, Deus Ex puts players behind the shades of JC Denton--an operative thrust into a world of byzantine global conspiracies.
Super Cheap on Steam right now!
We can get a general discussion forum for 2.5€?! Sweet! :P Either got that glitch or posted in the wrong forum - which game is it?
I'm glad the General Discussion bug struck, because I would have never have heard about this otherwise.
I was just thinking a day or two ago that if Deus Ex ever went down to $2 on Steam, I'd buy it.
Close enough, I guess. I played the sequel a bit and enjoyed the setting, and everyone seems to think the original is better, so I guess I'm buying it!
In particular I enjoy the crazy physics effects; I don't know of any other game that lets me throw a dead body two stories into the air (more if you have strength enhancements.)
Also for anyone not using XP good luck trying to get Deus Ex to run I have heard it's a lot of trouble getting it to run on either vista or windows 7
Fucking hell, yesterday I write a blog about how tempting these steam sales can be, then Trine and Deus EX drop to silly prices.
The game crashes on startup... Great.
I'm running Windows 7 and can't run steam in compatibility mode (steam will literally not let me). I'm running it as admin, but that's not helping. Also, every time the game crashes, I recheck the integrity of the cache and it always has me re-download two files. It still never works. I'll try some other stuff, I guess.
I've been meaning to get back into Deus Ex for some time now. I have the original on PS2 still...but it just isn't the same. I couldn't pass this deal up and bought both. Haven't played Invisible War since it came out, so I'll give it another chance.
Does anyone also recommend getting both games? I heard the sequel isn't as good, I don't want to just buy every trash out there. By trash I mean the sequel is like in the low 80% gamerankings compared to the first game which is over 90%.
Will I care about the story of the second game? I don't know, I missed out on this game before.
Oh Steam, how I hate you and your specials. Why do I always fold like a lawn chair when these $2.50 specials come up? Curses!

I already had the first game, but I bought Invisible War today. Damn game keeps crashing my computer about every 30 minutes though, which is a shame because otherwise the game is pretty good so far.
I want to play through Deus Ex and its sequel in anticipation for the new game coming out, but I was wondering if it is easy to mod games on Steam as there are high definition texture mods and such available to make it easier to get back into.
I have had no luck getting the HD texture pack to work with my Steam copy (my CD copy is oooold so I like to have a backup.) People on the Steam boards for the game seem to have it working. I'll try again in a few days.
I do, however, have the 3-in-1 community texture pack for Invisible War working perfectly on the Steam install. It doesn't really update the game (ala Stalker Complete 2009) but it makes everything a lot sharper.
God I loved Deus Ex. I remember playing the same situation over and over again and trying out different ways to complete the mission each time. Do I go in through the ceiling, Do I go through a vent, hack a computer, or ....
I only wish I knew where it was in my parent's house. I'm sure my piece of crap laptop can play it.
