The Most Fun You'll Have Getting Your Ass Kicked 1

Devil May Cry 3 is over the top.  Everything about the game is done in excess, which could be good or bad, but in this case it's mostly good.  After an excellent and stylish debut in 2001, Devil May Cry took a wrong turn with its 2003 sequel and disappointed many fans.  With the third installment, Capcom is attempting to get back to its roots.  While the game is titled "3," it's actually a prequel to the original game.  The story revolves around the relationship between Dante and his twin b...

A perfect example of hard not necessarily meaning crappy. 0

Some gamers today will tell you that games are easier than their older counterparts, that the translation into the third dimension sacrificed difficulty for new gameplay possibilities. I have written this review to tell you that is incorrect, and one of the best examples is this game, which will challenge you throughout. The gameplay experienced here is pure action, nothing less. You take the roll of Dante, a half demon devil hunter who kicks ass first and takes names later. You’ll spend a lot ...

How to Cry in both pain and joy. 0

Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening is like nothing I've ever seen nor experienced before. This game sets the standard for what an action-adventure game should be like, even arguably standing out as the best of it's kind. The Devil May Cry series has been dragged  through the mud these past years. The first being revolutionary for it's time, yet the second being the biggest ''**** up'' in video game history. The sequel isn't all that bad in reality, but it goes so far below the level of the first,...

More than a simple hack and slash 0

Devil May Cry 3 is an action adventure game, with the focus clearly being on the action. From the start you’ll realise that this is no ordinary ‘hack and slash’ game, but an inspiring experience that will certainly leave you desperate for more. The developers of Devil May Cry successfully began the series in 2001. The original Devil May Cry was one of the first essential games for the Playstation 2, combining free-flowing gameplay and excellent graphics. Despite the initial euphoria, the ...

Ultraviolence 0

Even as a hardened veteran of the excellent Devil May Cry and the not-so brilliant Devil May Cry 2, Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening is shockingly difficult from the get-go. It's not often that the first level of a video game does its very best to smash you into the dirt, and Devil May Cry 3 is no exception. From the start we are straight into it, no beating around the bush. Scythe wielding baddies slash at you from nearly every possible angle with very little breathing space. The ultra-coo...

So I Guess I'm A Masochist? 0

It makes me sad to see that hack'n slash games have become a dying breed. Some claim it's because gameplay has evolved into something so much more sophisticated over the years. Then I observe people playing Farmville or Angry Birds and realize how ridiculous that statement is. A game's addictive qualities can and often are manifested in more than just surface level game mechanics. For me, it all boils down to remuneration. I need to see up front what a title is offering me in relation to the time...

Gamers Will Cry 0

Gamers Will Cry Cut, shot, and destroyed Devils by Gamer Jay And here we are again, on the stepping stones of Demon world and Human world, once sealed by the legendary Sparda, human sympathizer and Legendary Dark Knight, not be confused with Batman, the not as powerful and not as demon like, Dark Knight. I have come through on my promise, which I bet the 3 of you out there reading this didn’t think I would, and brought you a review of an actual game instead of the past couple reviews I ...

Hardest game ever 0

I first brought this game thinking that I will be playing a great adventure story. However I was shocked to discover that the game was hard,,, It took me 5 goes to defeat the three headed dog. The story starts with Dante and his bro fighting in the rain. Swing giant swords at each other. Then Dante looses leaving his brother to turn to the darkside or something. Then a load of creatures come after Dante. Leaving you to fight you're way through the visous army. However, it's not as good as it see...

The sons of Sparda return in this action masterpiece 0

Since its release in 2001, the Devil May Cry series has been heralded as one of the premier action titles for the PS2. However, the series was in jeopardy of losing its status when the lackluster Devil May Cry 2 was released in 2003. Thankfully, Capcom redeemed themselves with 2005’s Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening. The third entry returned to the series’ roots of stylish action and cheesy one liners. However, while fans loved the game, there were some gripes about the difficulty, which was b...

Devil May Cry... Frustrating 0

Gameplay - 2/5 Dante can equip 2 devil arms and 2 guns at any given time and you can switch between them instantly, in mid-combo if you want to. The devil arms are all unique and interesting, with the exception of the throwaway guitar one, and lead to a huge variety of possible combos. The guns, on the other hand, are all fairly generic and do negligible damage to enemies, even when upgraded. As you may have heard the game is extremely difficult, but not because of aggressive enemies or creative...
