After months of rumors, Capcom have officially announced the release of Devil May Cry HD Collection. The game will be released in February 2012 on PS3 and 360, and include Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2 and Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening Special Edition.

Buying this just for DMC3 in HD. And yeah, that is one hell of an ugly cover, here's hoping they do what the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection did and include a reversible side that doesn't offend the eyes so much.

You should be able to choose between original DMC3 and special addition. While I think the changes in SE are great and make the game better not everyone agrees.

It is terrible cover art, I would have preferred something minimal and classy...

I instantly felt a surge of adrenaline and a tingly feeling all over after reading the thread title. I've been hoping for this forever!

I'm hoping (in vain, probably) that they somehow made it to where you can pick out four styles to switch between instantly in DMC3 like they did with 4. I can dream, can't I?!

This sounds great. I had always wanted to play the first DMC game but I didn't own a PS2 until late in its cycle so I never got around to it. It should also be fun (though likely very punishing) to play through DMC3 again, though I'll probably realize after playing through it just how much easier DMC4 is in comparison (I'm referring to the harder difficulties of course). <_<

@TwilitEnd656: I don't think I would want that. In Devil May Cry 4 the styles were simplified to balance out having access to all four at once. I preferred how styles were handled in 3.

I'll buy this. I like these collections and I've always wanted to get into Devil May Cry.

Definately looking forward to this. Ps2 Dmc1 had a weird soft look to it. Nothing bad. Dmc2 was muddy. Though dmc3, jesus christ. Looked horrible when it came out. After playing mgs2 and 3, god. The textures were so bad, they blended in with each other. Not sure if they pulled a god of war 2 or resident evil 4, and just ran at a lower resolution and scaled to 480i. Pretty popular thing to do back in that generation.

Now I'm just interested in the sound quality. i remember dmc1, had a weird- low quality sound to most of its effects. Music was spectacular though. God, the griffin fights. Epic!

I will buy this.

They added a easier difficulty(or japanese edition's easy mode) and bumped the names of the ones from the last release, so easy became normal, hard became very hard(which Capcom tried passing off as a new difficulty level for that release). They also let you pick between two continue systems. Oh and a Jester boss battle was added, but it was pretty uneventful.

So unless you really hated the Jester battle, there's no reason to pick the vanilla edition.

Shhhhhuweeet! I played the absolute shit out of both DMC3 and the Special Edition; the first DMC got plenty of playtime out of me as well and I'm more than willing to put in even more. I played... some of DMC2, I'm not one to completely condemn it as a work of the Anti-DMC-Christ, but it was lacking from what I remember. Dante in particular I recall was morphed into a boring, stoic full fledged emo. Curious to play again just to see where the hate stems from; if I recall the gameplay wasn't really all that bad, if a little too easy, however.

I've bought all the DMC games ('cept for the Special Edition of 3, cause why would I do that?) so far and 3 is the only one I still like to go back to, which I did, recently, so I have no interest in this.

I've never played DMC, but I loved Bayonetta. Maybe I'll pick this up.

I guess nothing will make DMC3 look good.

I had my fill of DMC, I'll pass.

3 is the only one worth paying for. Buy Bayonetta instead, at this point.

I love everything Devil May Cry. Therefore, I love this. I will be buying this.

I played Devil May Cry 1 time, but played through DMC3 about 4 times. I have never played 2, so this will be a nice way to see what that game was all about whilst enjoying the better parts of this collection.

DMC 3 was head and shoulders above the other two. There's like 4 close-range weapons and 4 long-range ones with all unique combos and abilities, then there's the wierd "style" thing- and every piece levels up n unlocks new moves n shit.

DMC 1 is just... the absolute bare bones of that, and with characters that're still takin it seriously.

Yay! Wait, not on PC? Boo! Maybe in time. Played through 3 and 4 a couple times and considered getting a cheap PS2 to check out their roots, especially DMC1 of course, tho the appeal of the entire franchise including so much so bad it's good that seeing how bad it gets is hella tempting. But do do Bayonetta first.

Might pick it up as well. Played the first one centuries ago, so I really don't remember anything from it.

After RE4 HD I'm really skeptical about this...

@Andyman067: I don't remember the specifics but each style had less abilities in Devil May Cry 4. Making them less fun then in 3. I prefer the specialist approach. Four styles and switching between three weapons was a little clumsy for me.

That's incorrect. Even assuming you were right, you have access to every style and weapon at once which is the opposite of "dumbed down".

Fair enough, but that doesn't make it a lesser game. It just means you can't (or don't) utilize the broader mechanics.

I guess I'm just tired of people saying 3 is better than 1 or 4 when it's plainly the worst out of the three. In terms of enemy and boss design, DMC1 is far superior (Also DMC4 to a lesser extent). And in combo potential, 4 is miles better as well. DMC3 has literally nothing over the other games.

The FACT is that in my opinion, DMC4 sufferred from too much recycling of bosses/areas, not enough weapons nor innovation in same, and a spastically functional style switching system. You liked it more, and that's fine. But why do you care that I and many like me preferred the approach of 3?
