Females can NOT be wizards
You admitting that you have no authoritative definition on which your argument is based provides all the value I wanted." @Kamasama said:
Not from any dictionary. Words are referenced in dictionaries, but I hope you don't think their existence is directly connected or dependent on a dictionary or any other so-called authority. Don't you see that you just listed 2-3 sources and each one had a slightly different meaning? Your own sources can't even agree to what the proper definition of a witch and wizard is, what authority do they carry? So of what value would it be if I sourced yet another opinionated so called authority? We'd still be no better off then we were before. "" @Cadmus said:
And which dictionary are you pulling your definition from? This site cites definitions from Random House Dictionary, The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, and Online Etymology Dictionary without mentioning that it should be male. WordNet, YourDictionary, and Wiktionary also do not mention gender. "" But it does exist. The WORD wizards and witches exist as much as any other word in a dictionary exists. "
You've completely missed the point. Words can have multiple definitions. Although in this case despite the variations on phrasing and embellishment, they all agree that one meaning -- the relevant one -- is referring to a user of magic. But more importantly, you admitting that no authority exists disproves your argument. Thinking for oneself will not change what is proper or true, only one's understanding of it." @Kamasama: Because no authority on the subject exists. You need to start thinking for yourself. Your so-called authorities (sources) don't even agree with one another, i.e. they're probably both wrong. "
" I think your overreacting to something that's not really a big deal. That's just what I think, though. "I think you are overreacting to his reaction.
Vampires didn't used to sparkle either, but we've all managed to move on from that to new things. Like zombies and underwater utopia monsters.
May I suggest necromancers? Necromancers are cool.
" @Cadmus said:That's not the entire meaning, it's not even a meaning at all, witch and wizard in reference to a 'user of magic' is just the only property that the words witch and wizard share in common. But the words mean so much more then that (a word isn't just it's least common denomintaor) The chief characteristic that differentiates between the two words is that witch is a woman that uses magic and wizard is a male that uses magic. You've completely missed the point. And how does not having an authority disprove that two words must exist to differentiate between a man who practices magic and a woman who practices magic? How do you think words came about? People observed phenomena, and somehow, appropriately named it. And what do you even mean by authority? Are you talking about some kind of external authority like a literal God that the popular religious believe in?
Your argument is invalid, and, therefore, worthless.
Witches, wizards, mages, sages, warlocks, sorcerers, sorceresses, and all those who have control over magic and spells all have the ability to do the same thing. Therefore, it doesn't matter what you call a him/her.

" My understanding was that a Warlock was the male counterpart of Witch, and Wizard was non gender-specific. From reading some of the comments though, it seems that Harry Potter has perverted the idea of a Wizard, just as Twilight has perverted what a Vampire really is. "If either have actually done that whatsoever, its not them to blame..its the stupidity of the people actually somehow thinking that is now true. Yes, Wizard is gender neutral entirely. If they wanted a gender specific mage like class, they would of just had the sorceress again. I still dont see how this is actually a topic.
This is already a discussion on something that is not real at all, but people actually using harry potter as a backbone to this discussion is somehow changing view on this further. I really dont know how to put it clearly...this topic is udderly confusing at this point, and really was dumb from the start." @pause422 said:

Oh, so you were just saying "This thread is dumb?" K, thanks." @TooWalrus said:

Its just like how people say that female warlocks aren't possible, but there is such thing as a witchalock.

Not only is this thread months old, it's wrong now.
